Chamos Acaci Snail Repair Anti-Wrinkle Cream Review

Recently, I received some products from Memebox that are not normally included in their boxes, but are available to purchase on their website. One of these items was the Chamos Acaci Snail Repair Anti-Wrinkle Cream. I am pretty much obsessed with Korean skincare, so while I had already heard of these snail creams, I had so far been too afraid to try any of them!

My first question was, "Why would I want to put snail goo on my face?!" My Second one was, "Who the heck thought to use this as a cream?" Both my questions were answered in the description from the Memebox website:

In Chile, workers on snail farms discovered that after regular handling of snails sold as escargot to French restaurants, the skin on their hands were much smoother, softer, and firmer, and that any cut, blister, inflammation or skin irritation would heal rapidly. While it may not sound pleasant, mucins—otherwise known as snail slime—have been known to possess healing properties as far back as 400 B.C., when they were first recommended by Hippocrates to treat skin redness.

Today’s research shows that snail slime is a complex mixture of chemical ingredients that together helps to exfoliate dead skin, control sebum production, regenerate and repair damaged skin cells, hydrate and soothe irritated skin, and maintain the skin’s natural elasticity and resilience. A powerful antioxidant, mucins protect the skin from free radicals and pathogens, and improve the appearance of blemishes such as stretch marks, scars, sun damage, and acne. They also help to tighten dilated pores, clear and brighten skin tone, and serve as an excellent anti-aging and anti-firming treatment.

After reading that, I decided to take the plunge and start using the snail cream! This particular cream is used to hydrate and nourish the skin, protect the skin from external stimuli, and to reduce and help avoid wrinkles.

The cream has an ever-so-slightly "gooey" consistency, but applies smoothly and isn't sticky at all. It has a light "facial cream" scent, which to me is basically a light floral. Nothing overpowering. I needed very little to cover my face and neck. It absorbs quickly and I was able to put on my makeup pretty quickly after applying.

It is suggested that this be used both in the morning and at night, which I did for a week. I did not notice any sort of wrinkle improvement after a week, but I do not have heavy aging on my skin. My wrinkles are simply fine lines around the corners of my eyes and one larger line across the bridge of my nose (from years of squinting! LOL). I did notice however, that my skin was much smoother and softer.

Shortly after, I noticed I was getting some small bumps on my forehead, so I thought that the cream might be breaking me out a bit. I cut down to only using the cream in the morning, and using a different cream at night, and that seems to be working very well for my skin. I cannot speak for how well this improves wrinkle appearance, but I will say that it left my skin feeling hydrated and soft. I will continue to use this product, however I'm not sure if it's long-term effects will have me re-purchase or not. Only time will tell!

I would try this out if you have dry to normal skin. I would try to avoid this cream in particular if you are prone to breakouts when your skin is over-moisturized or when you use a heavier skin cream. If you're a bit more adventurous with your skincare, then snail cream might be a fun addition to your regimen!

  1. Bravo for taking the plunge to apply snail goo on your face! It seems like it is at least moisturizing, if anything. I think for younger ladies with minimal lines / wrinkles, it's hard to see an improvement with any creams. Do you have any creams that seem to combat your fine lines as someone younger? I'm only 25 (soon to be 26) and want to address tiny lines, but don't want to splurge on crazy expensive cream since I'm so young. Any suggestions?

    1. Hey Ashly! Haha thanks for the pat on the back! I was definitely weirded out a bit by the snail goo, but it's not so bad once you get used to it! LOL :) I hate to admit it, but up until about a year ago, I wasn't doing any sort of preventative skincare at all. I was basically taking my makeup off with a wipe at the end of the night and washing my face in the shower when I woke up and that was pretty much it! I'm still relatively new to the creams and what-not, but I am DEFINITELY looking into finding one that will get rid of fine lines for younger skin. I am on a never-ending search to remove the line on the bridge of my nose from years of squinting and not wearing glasses! The day I find it, I will write a glowing review! haha :)

  2. I bought this cream along with other acaci products through Memebox and I'm really dissapointed as it caused my face to break out horribly. I usually get a few pimples around my period but once I used this cream, it caused me cystic acne that I never experienced before. I wished it had worked for me, but I had to quit using it.
Other than that, I tried the eye cream, and I've had no problems, but no visible results either, as well as the lotion, toner and milky cream.

    1. Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear that! Unfortunately, this stuff is an incredibly rich cream (as I'm sure you know.) It seems like it has the tendency to break out certain skin types. My best friend had a very similar reaction and had to stop using it too, although my mom and myself have had great results. I haven't used any of the other products yet, though so I can't vouch or those!

  3. Hi Bunny,

i will give you some advice concerning snail cream but before i will present us :)

We are Reelle, a snail extract skincare company. We are producing a 100% pure snail extract line (that does not mean 100% of slime!!!!! it's a common mistake that people do :) ) and you can find us here. This is the thai version of our website because the english version is not ready yet.

So, when you use snail cream, especially if it is highly concentrated, you don't want to use it more than once a day. That might be a tendancy to break, as said Rachel, or ACNE.

It's really important for people to understand that.

In our case, our skincare line is highly concentrated (from 5% to 20% snail extract) AND 100% pure, so we had to find the best way for people, in order to avoid those kind of problems.
And the fact is that if people use it only once a day, and just a small quantity, then some problem can appear but most of the time, that will be fine.

I use this post to ask Rachel if she would like to review some of our products at the same time. I planned to send you an email but well, i reckon i can ask here :)
