Birchbox Man April 2014 Review

I feel like it's been forever since I've done a review! I have so many ready to go, and so many I'm itching to share with you! I've had quite a busy week, which included some one-on-one time with my wonderful mother, as well as some not-so-fun time at the hospital visiting a family member. They are doing much better, but regardless of all that, I just wanted to apologize to my readers for my lack of posting lately!

Before I left for the weekend, J received his Birchbox Man. This bad boy shipped at the end of March, and arrived within the first few days of April. If only the women's Birchboxes were shipped that early!

J was weary about receiving a Birchbox Man, because while he loves personal care products, he has researched some of the past boxes and hasn't always been impressed with the contents. However, after recently canceling his Loot Crate, he was looking for something that would be a bit more practical, but still fun to open!

If you're unfamiliar, Birchbox Man is a lifestyle subscription box for men that contains products ranging from personal care, to clothing and accessories, and more! The cost is $20 a month, which is twice as much as the women's box, but usually contains higher valued items overall.

This month's theme was "Spring Fever" and while I'd love to go into a bit more detail, J accidentally threw away the card, so I'll have to do my best describing each product for you!

1.Atelier Cologne: Cédrat Enivrant Cologne Absolue
J absolutely loves cologne, and even better: he loves citrus! This cologne is such a perfect summer scent. It has notes of Bergamot, lime and vetiver, and just smells so fresh and clean! Upon first sniff it kind of smells like a gin and tonic with a twist of lime, but the dry-down has that "cologne-like" scent that really makes for super-citrusy, yet still masculine fragrance. J absolutely adored this scent and maybe, if he's lucky, I'll spend my Birchbox points and pick him up a bottle!

2. KOR Aura Water Bottle
There were a few different possibilities for the "lifestyle item" in this months box, and while some may have fit J's preferences a bit more, we were happy to see this fancy KOR water bottle in his box this month! J and I have both started to drink almost exclusively water, and this is a great bottle for him to take to work and refill as needed through the day. It's incredibly well made and feels quite durable!

3. Davines: Naturaltech Energizing Shampoo
J might kill me for mentioning this in my blog, but luckily he doesn't read it all that often, so I'm probably in the clear: his hair is thinning...and he's not happy about it. Like lots of other men (and women) that are leaving their younger years and are being dragged kicking and screaming into their "middle aged" years, J's hair just isn't as thick and luxurious as it used to be. And this Davines Shampoo is supposed to act as an energizer to your scalp and hair, and help promote regrowth and strength in hair. It has a slight medicinal smell: a bit like a cough drop, but it's also kind of refreshing. J has used it a couple of times now and hasn't noticed a difference in the health/thickness of his hair, but he's been enjoying it overall!

4. Vasanti: Brighten Up! Enzymatic Face Rejuvenator
Apparently this is a sample that has crossed over from the women's boxes into the men's boxes. It's a facial scrub enriched with Papaya, micro-crystals and aloe, and is supposed to mimic the results of a microdermabrasion. I might sneak this away from J and try it myself, as I have heard wonderful things about it! I don't think he's tried it yet, but if it changes my skin's life, I'll be sure to give you all the update!

5. Stubble & 'Stache Face Moisturizer and Beard Conditioner
While J doesn't have a beard, he absolutely has the most awesome handlebar mustache you'll ever see! He was very happy to get double-duty product that not only moisturizes his face, but his 'stache too! I know my guy (and many others!) love multi-use products, and he's been using this one daily since we got it!

Overall, this was a great start to a new subscription! All the items were decently sized, and they were catered well to J's profile. He was really happy with each and every product, and is already looking forward to the May box!

  1. While my husband Dean got pretty much the same box except instead of the water bottle he go 2 prs. Of the low cut socks. While that really didn't thrill him he will probably wear them out bicycling this summer! He was really excited about the stubble n' stashe as he has not a bit of facial hair on his face. The rest he was OK with! Thanks for he review Rachel!

    1. I saw those socks in another review, and while they'll probably be useful, I can see how they're not that exciting, haha! I'm glad Dean enjoyed the box overall though! The Stubble & Stache makes a great facial moisturizer even without facial hair, so maybe he'll end up liking it either way! :D
