Studio Gear Hydrating CC Cream Review

As much as I love makeup, I tend to only splurge on the "pretty" things: eye shadow palettes, lipsticks in fancy tubes etc. Rarely do you ever see me in my local Sephora, perusing the foundations or primers. I usually just buy a replacement when my previous one runs out, or pick one up on recommendation from a friend. So when I was asked to review the new Studio Gear Hydrating CC Cream, I jumped at the chance. I am always looking for an alternative to foundation, especially in the summer when I don't want to have a heavy layer of product on my skin.

From Studio Gear:
Hydrating CC Cream transforms and enhances your complexion in an incredibly light, smooth formula. This foundation simultaneously fights aging, retains moisture, and covers and treats blemishes with a non-oily, perfectly radiant finish.

Key Benefits:
  •     Protects:  SPF 20 protects the skin, while Hydra-Extend technology provides moisture for up to 72 hours.
  •     Perfects:  Enjoy natural looking coverage while micro-encapsulated pigments perfects and fade dark spots and acne scarring.
  •     Corrects:  Anti-aging and collagen building ingredients help minimize fine lines and wrinkles.
  •     Hydrates:  Hydra-Extend technology provides up to 72 hours of continuous hydration.
  •     Conceals:  Micro encapsulated pigments deliver a fresh dose of color that adapts to your own skin tone, creating the most natural looking coverage.
  •     Smooths:  Skin nourishing ingredients help to correct and maintain youthful complexion.

Shades
This CC Cream comes in 3 colors: Linen, Natural and Wheat. I chose Linen, which I think is a very light shade, and works well with my skin tone. The main issue I have with these kinds of creams that are supposed to work for a wide variety of skin tones, is that they rarely-if ever- include a shade that would work for deeper skin tones. This is the case with the Studio Gear CC Cream, as the darkest shade, "wheat" is more of a light caramel shade. I would definitely be more apt to suggest a product to my readers if it offers at least some sort of variety in the shade selections.

 Performance
If you happen to remember the Almay smartshade foundation, this CC cream is very similar to that formula. The cream comes out in a light, slightly liquidy consistency and looks white with a bit of speckling. As you begin to blend, the color begins to appear and seemingly "blends" with your skin tone.
The swatch above was very concentrated, and definitely blends out to a more natural finish. It applies like a BB cream or a tinted moisturizer, and is easy to work with. It feels very moisturizing without being shiny or greasy, and leaves the skin feeling quite smooth!

Coverage
I took before and after photos of my skin while using this CC cream, and the reason why you're not seeing them now, is because they looked like identical photos. In other words, this product has little to no coverage. Once you blend the product into your skin, it seemingly disappears. I noticed it did an OK job of covering very slight red tones around my nose and under my eyes, but I still needed to use a concealer under my eyes and on my acne, scarring etc.

Overall
If you are looking for a product that conceals and covers acne, redness, dark circles etc, this is absolutely not the product for you. While my skin felt more moisturized and had a nicer appearance overall, my acne and dark circles were still as apparent as ever. It's called a "CC Cream" which is supposed to mean "color correcting" and unfortunately, I don't think it did that much for me in that department.

I personally think that this is an excellent tinted moisturizer with added benefits. I love that it has SPF 20, and it really did a fantastic job moisturizing my skin. I also think the fact that it's anti-aging and has collagen building ingredients make this a great product for 30+ skin. It feels nice when applied, and does a decent job covering very small imperfections and light discolorations. If you're simply looking for a high quality tinted moisturizer with SPF and anti-aging benefits, I think this would be an excellent product for you to try!
