Birchbox June 2014

June has been one of the busiest months for me so far this year, and it just keeps getting busier! Not only did I move back to my home state, but I'm prepping to go in for surgery on July 1st. It feels like the doctor's appointments are never-ending! Luckily, I had some time last weekend to visit my city's farmers market and was able to pick up a beautiful bouquet of sustainably grown flowers from Fivefork Farms. They seemed like the perfect thing to not only warm up my dining area, but they were the perfect summery back drop for my June Birchbox!

This month's theme is "Away We Go" and each box has travel-ready samples and on-the-go inspiration for all your summer traveling needs! We've been spending lots of money lately due to the move, but I can see lots of stay-cations in the future! Birchbox also partnered with Jet Blue to provide a travel quiz that helps subscribers pick the perfect summer travel destination, as well as giving everyone a chance to win free airfare. Fun!

My two boxes this month did have a bit of overlap, but overall I got a decent variety of samples!

BOX #1

Harvey Prince: Hello Perfume

Liz Earle: Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser Starter Kit

Davines: "Love" Smoothing Shampoo, Conditioner and All-in-One Milk

The Aloe Source: Vitamin C Antioxidant Creme

LAQA & Co. Sheer Lip Lube Pencil in "Bees Knees"

I am really digging my main box this month! I have received the Harvey Prince perfume in a past box (different account) and while it's very summery/fruity, it's not really my kind of scent, so I'll be passing that on. I already own and use the Liz Earle cleanser, and I couldn't be happier to have a backup. This stuff is so different, but cleans well and gently exfoliates. It makes my skin feel amazing! I have seen the Davines hair products around in the Birchbox shop, but haven't sampled them yet. I kind of wish they included an equal sized conditioner rather than a huge shampoo and foil pack conditioner, but these smell nice and I'm always down for travel friendly hair stuff! The Aloe Source Vitamin C creme is a nice sample. My skin loves Vitamin C products, however I will be passing this on to a friend, as I have SO much skincare waiting to be used from Memebox. Finally, I was thrilled to see a LAQA & Co. lip lube in my box. I've been interested in trying these out for awhile now, although I was hoping for the purple shade. This is a pretty sheer coral shade that will still look very nice, so I'll just have to cross my fingers for the purple one in a future box!

 BOX #2

Catherine Malandrino Fragrance

Egyptian Magic: All Purpose Skin Cream

Caudalie: Polyphenol C15 Anti-Wrinkle Defense Serum

There was definitely more overlap in my boxes this month than there has been in the past, but what's more interesting is how both boxes are curated almost identically. Davines products, a perfume, a lip lube pencil, a skincare product in a small jar, and another skincare item. The non-dupe items in this box were all welcomed, though! I've actually tried and loved Egyptian Magic a couple of years ago. This is a beeswax-based product that can be used on any part of your skin. I have used it as a facial moisturizer (VERY small amount is needed) and it seemingly heals wounds and even lessens acne scarring. I really do love this stuff! The Catharine Malandrino perfume is definitely more up my alley than the Harvey Prince scent. This is a fruity/floral oriental. Sounds like a lot, but it's actually a perfect summer fragrance for people like myself who really lean toward "darker" fragrances. It's not super strong, but it definitely will last a long time, and is one of those perfumes that makes you feel instantly more sophisticated and "put-together" once your spritz it on. Finally the Caudalie serum is OK, although I don't really need a whole lot of anti-wrinkle stuff yet. Caudalie is a fantastic brand though, so I will be passing this on to my mom or a friend who is interested!

Overall Thoughts
Aside from the product overlap in my boxes this month, I think that there was an awesome variety! Both boxes had an even mix of products that would be useful for travel. I especially love having perfume samples on hand when I travel so I don't risk breaking my full size bottles. I also love the jars that the skincare products are in, because once empty-they make great jars to dispense foil packets into!
Overall, I'm very happy with my June boxes and as always, already looking forward to next month!

  1. Honey you're never too young for anti-wrinkle cream/serum. I wish someone would've told me that when I was younger. Start tending to them before they happen, not after. Cool stuff. Good reviews!
