Boxycharm September 2014 Review

OK Guys, I am SO excited to share this review with you, that I pushed back everything else I had in front of it just so I could get this one up. Rarely do I try a new-to-me subscription box and love it so much that I have to tell everyone immediately. I was texting pictures of it to my friends, that's how geeked out about this box I am!

Boxycharm is a beauty subscription box that seems to be makeup-heavy, although they have included hair and skincare in the past as well. Much of the time the products included are full size. The cost is only $21 per month, and I'm telling you- the value far outweighs the cost of the subscription!

I was hesitant to subscribe to Boxycharm for a while now, because when they first launched they had less-than-stellar reviews. Originally, they were touted as the "drugstore makeup version of Glossybox." They seemed to have only drugstore brands, and sometimes included products that had been discontinued. While that usually isn't a huge deal for me, I just wasn't interested in a drugstore subscription box, especially one that was $21 a month.

Luckily, I've been keeping a close eye on Boxycharm since they relaunched and I can confidently say that in their price range, there is not a better beauty box out there!

For the month of September, the theme was "Fashion Week Fabulous" and the products included were to give subscribers "a front row ticket to runway beauty."
But enough about that, let's get into the good stuff: The products!

 1. Coastal Scents Go Palette in "Paris" (Full Size/ $12.95)
I really love Coastal Scents for their fantastic value and quality products. I have both of the Revealed palettes, and my go-to makeup brushes are the the classic set from Coastal Scents. I actually already own most of these Go Palettes, as there was a huge 50% off sale last year and I ended up buying a bunch of them! Luckily, I don't currently own the Paris palette. Each one of these shadows is about the size of a dime, and are very complimentary to each other. There are a few different finishes: satin, shimmer, glitter,'s all here! While I did find the pigmentation to be not up-to-par with some of the other Coastal Scents shadows I own, I do think they performed pretty well overall. I'd compare them to your typical drugstore shadows. The swatches I took are without a primer, but they really pop even more when you use one. My only major gripe with this palette is that there is no lighter shade to blend with or use as a brow highlight, so if it was to be used for travel, a highlight shade would have to be taken along as well.

2. NCLA Nail Lacquer in "Catwalk Queen" (Full Size/ $16)
I own a few NCLA polishes and I really love their formula and staying power and fast drying time. Their polishes are 5-free and not tested on animals, which is awesome! I believe there were two other potential colors I could have received (red or deep grey/black) and while this was the shade I originally wanted the least, I am actually thrilled that I got it!
Embarrassing story time: I was watching the Kardashians (shh I'm a fan) and Khloe had a ridiculously gorgeous nude manicure that made her nails and hands look so classy. I remember deciding that I needed a nude polish, but nude shades just don't look very exciting when you see them in stores. I am really excited to see how this looks on, and if I can't pull it off, it's the perfect base to wear under some glitter!

3. Harvey Prince "Hello" Travel Perfume (Full Size/ $29)
I've tried this perfume before through Birchbox (although I got a teeny sample size) and it might be one of the only fruity perfumes I really enjoy. Harvey Prince perfumes are always really fantastic and unique, and this one is no exception. The notes include: meyer lemon, white grapefruit and Satsuma mandarin. However there is something in this perfume that really warms it up beautifully, so that you don't smell like a fruit basket. I took a look on the Harvey Prince website, and there's also a hint of Summer Forsythia and Pink Plumeria, which is what really sets this perfume apart. Upon first spritz, it's really warm and fruity, but has a very subtle floral dry down which warms it up and makes it feel really luxurious. I do think this is more of a summery scent rather than Fall, but it's lovely regardless!

4. Tarina Tarantino "Fleur de Lash" Mascara (Full Size/ $19)
I've seen this brand around everywhere, and have always been drawn in by the pretty packaging but never pulled the trigger when it came to actually buying anything. The packaging feels very high quality, and I love the fact that this mascara includes a classic, full bristle brush. This is supposed to lengthen and thicken while boosting volume. Since I go by the lash motto of, "the bigger, the better," this sounds like a great mascara for me! This particular gunmetal-colored tube is apparently limited edition as well! I'm very excited to try this out, as I am always searching for new mascaras!

5. tarte LipSurgence Lip Gloss in "Park Ave Princess" (Full Size/ $19)
Tarte is probably one of my top 5 favorite makeup lines of all time, so I was absolutely thrilled to see one of their LipSurgence lip glosses in this box! I know there were a few different colors that could have been included, however I received "Park Ave Princess" which is a pretty nude color with golden micro glitter. The formula is thick, but not too sticky or uncomfortable. I don't usually like micro glitter in my lip gloss, but this is very subtle, and I don't feel it once it's applied. The applicator is a doefoot that has a little dip in it, which holds the perfect amount of gloss and makes it much easier to apply. I have very little natural pigment to my lips, so while I would have preferred a different shade, I think this is a great basic to have in my makeup arsenal.

Overall Thoughts
LOVE! I am SO happy with my first Boxycharm! I paid $21 shipped for this box, and the total value of the September box was  $95.95!
Seriously, I cannot believe what a fantastic value this box was, and what great curation: Shadow, mascara, lip gloss, nail polish and a perfume! Taking a look at the past few months of boxes, I can confidently say that Boxycharm is absolutely the best value in their price range for subscription boxes. If you're looking for a makeup-heavy (but not exclusive) subscription box that is reasonably priced and has a fantastic value, you must try Boxycharm!

    1. Isn't it? I'm so jazzed about what a great value it is! I don't know what kind of witchcraft they do to get such a great value in these boxes, but dang...I'm definitely a new fan!

  2. Amazing value. Everything in there was awesome and a good size.

  3. This is also one of the best subscription boxes that I own!!!!! I haven't gotten mine this month yet, but I can't wait! The other one that I really like is Blush Mystery Box.

  4. I have to put this at the top of my list, too. Boxycharm has been showing off some FANTASTIC boxes lately. The June box was also unreal for value. Can't wait to see what's in store for next month!
