Memebox Scentbox: Sweet Shop

Memebox has had their fair share of "scentboxes" up for sale in recent months. Everything from graprfruit to baby powder, if you like a particular scent, I'm sure Memebox has had a box that would suit you!
I skipped on every previous scentbox that Memebox has had available as I'm very particular with the scents of products I use, and I especially dislike anything overly floral. The most recent batch of scentboxes they released (tropical, sweet, floral) was where I caved. I love sweet-smelling products, and things that look like/smell like desserts. There's just something so alluring about smelling like a cupcake, no?

(product info card tells you more information and how to use each product!)
If you're new to Memebox, they are a website that sells Korean beauty products, but their most popular items are of course, the Memeboxes. These boxes are full of deluxe samples and full size Korean beauty products and are delivered to you all the way from Korea. Memebox has been kind enough to create a FAQs page that you can view HERE if you want more info on the boxes, as there are many to choose from!
This particular box is one of their scent boxes. The description of this particular box from the Memebox website:

The Sweet Shop Scentbox cost $15 plus $6.99 shipping.

Let's see how "cute-as-a-button" and "scrumptiously scented" the items in the Sweet Shop Box are!

 1. "Hello Everybody" Vita Berry Shampoo
(Full Size Product: $23)
I received sample sizes of this shampoo along with the conditioner in the Hair and Body #2 box. I would have liked to see something different in the sweet box instead of a repeat, but I've heard good things about this shampoo in particular, so I'm excited to have a full size. This shampoo is "supercharged with 10 berry complexes" to help cleanse and repair damage to your hair. It's color/perm safe and won't dry out your hair. I color my hair regularly, so a color-safe shampoo is a must. While this is a great product, I don't really think it works with the theme of the box, as it's more of a fruity scent than a sweet scent. Still, it's a good product, so it's not a total loss.

2. Pure Smile Jewelry Scrub in "Ruby"
(Full Size Product: $8)
So I did a little research on this product, and while the info card that comes with this box suggests that it's essentially a body scrub, the Memebox website says it's a facial scrub. I tested it out, and it's definitely way too rough to be used on the face, so if you got this box or purchased this product from the Memebox website, please use caution if you choose to use it on your facial skin!
This scrub is made from black sugar, shea butter, jojoba seed oil, glycerin and ruby powder extracts, and is supposed to clear impurities from your skin while buffing and smoothing it out. I was hoping since there are different options (ruby, emerald, diamond etc) that my scrub would have a fun pink/red shade to it, but unfortunately it was just a milky white color. Memebox describes the scent as "sweet" however it's most definitely more of a light floral. Not a bad product, but yet again, misses the mark completely in regards to it being in the Sweet Shop Box.

3. Pure Smile Choosy Lip Pack (White Pearl and Pink Pearl)
(Full Size Product: $5)
While I wasn't thrilled about seeing 2 more Pure Smile products, the original description of the Sweet Box promised 3 full sized items. Since there are 3 other items in this box already, I'm considering these 2 masks to be a bonus. These are your typical gel-like lip sheets, that are like a sheet mask made special for your mouth. They contain collagen, vitamin E, hyaluronic acid, and honey. You simply place the gel mask onto your lips for 5-30 minutes and remove.
While I like lip masks, I found these to be absolutely awful. They're incredibly thin, and have a plastic-chemical smell to them. Not sweet in the slightest. Not even pleasant. They seem overloaded with essence when you first remove them from the package, however they only made my lips feel dryer after use. It bothers me that these were included because there are mouths eating candy pictured on them. That's it. This is a scent box. Everything in it should smell sweet, or am I just crazy?

4. Hope Girl Tinted Lip Balm in "Love Peach"
(Full Size Product: $12)
Hope Girl is one of those brands that you either love, or hate when it comes to Memebox. I, for one, really love the Hope Girl products I've tried, so I was very happy to see this lip balm in the box. It has a very subtle tint to it, which looks really nice on my lips. It's made with shea butter and looks and feels soft and shiny when applied. The description does claim that this balm will "stain" the lips, however I didn't notice that. It does have a nice fruity peach scent and stays for awhile on my lips, though. Unfortunately, while you could consider fruit scents to be "sweet," I don't think this fits into the sweet shop box, either.

Overall Thoughts
The Sweet Shop scent box cost $22 shipped, and has a total value of $48. Not a great value like Memebox is known for, but definitely worth the money spent. Memebox missed the mark in a bad way with this box. Just looking at the picture alone, you'd never guess this was supposed to be a "Sweet Shop" box. They billed this box as "cute-as-a-button" and filled with product that would leave me smelling like "Sugar crystals and sprinkles." What I got was 2 fruit-scented items, 2 plastic-chemical scented items, and one slightly floral item. None of these things are particularly "cute as a button," although the Hope Girl balm could possibly pass as such. What a huge disappointment for myself, and for anyone that was expecting this to be a legitimate "Sweet Box" full of candy and dessert-scented products.

The good thing about this box is that I expected 3 products, and received 5. I didn't exactly enjoy the bonus products, but it was nice that they were added in. Putting aside the fact that there was supposed to be a theme here, the Shampoo, lip balm and body scrub are actually pretty nice products. I will use and enjoy all of them, I was just really hoping for something so much different than what I received.

What did you think of this box? Did you like it, or expect something completely different?

  1. I didn't get this box but I can see how it didn't quite meet expectations. But I will say this: Hope Girl gets kind of a bad rap but they're not bad! Not sure if I'd be super-excited about a tinted balm, but I liked their lipstick and mascara and weirdly-expensive body powder.

    1. Yea I wasn't over-the-moon about the tinted lip balm, but I agree on the Hope Girl products! I love their lipsticks and I definitely enjoyed the mascara too! I think people are just tired of seeing them in almost every box so they're starting to take it out on the brand itself rather than the fact they just want more variety. I enjoy the weirdly-expensive body powder too! LOL although the scent is just a bit too subtle for my liking.

  2. I have to agree that this box really misses the dessert mark... I would be really disappointed too! I received the shampoo in my hair & body box and I wasn't in love with the scent. :(

    1. I put the shampoo and conditioner aside for a future giveaway so I never really was able to smell them. I took a whiff of this one and it's really not that impressive-scent wise. :(

  3. It took me awhile to figure it out but the Jewelry scrub is a SUGAR scrub and that's why it's in the box. This box was my least favorite even though it had the most full size items and more than the Floral box. Mainly because I don't really like that VitaBerry shampoo. It left my hair like straw.

    1. Ahhh *slaps forehead* Sugar scrub! How did that totally go over my head? LOL Unfortunately it's a sugar scrub that smells floral and is made from gem powders. C'mon Memebox...they could have thrown pretty much ANYTHING that had a sweet scent in here and had it work. There are so many dessert/chocolate scented items out there! :(

  4. Yes I felt exactly the same. Was so looking forward to this box and was just so disappointed when I got it:-(

  5. I got this box and was really disappointed with it. It's the first Memebox I've gotten that I wasn't absolutely in love with. I agree with you, I feel like none of the products really fit the theme and I actually posted all of them up for swap except the Hope Girl lip balm. Oh well, you win some, you lose some!
