Memebox Cafe Box Review and Unboxing

It was 3 A.M. on a weeknight. I was going through my ritual of refreshing the Memebox site to see what the new boxes were going to be. I was exhausted and ready to just give in and go to bed. Then, I saw it.
The Cafe Box.
I bought it before I could even process what was going on. Before I even read the description. The Cafe Box is a meeting of two of my important worlds: coffee and Memebox. It made no difference to me what the details were, as long as I'd have a cafe Memebox in my hands!
(product info card tells you more information and how to use each product)

If you're new to Memebox, they are a website that sells Korean beauty products, but their most popular items are of course, the Memeboxes. These boxes are full of deluxe samples and full size Korean beauty products and are delivered to you all the way from Korea. Memebox has been kind enough to create a FAQs page that you can view HERE if you want more info on the boxes, as there are many to choose from!

This particular box is one of their special edition boxes, which are curated around a specific theme. Cafe Box has 6 full size items and cost $23 plus $6.99 shipping.

From Memebox:
Get your daily caffeine buzz with Cafe Box! Wake up and smell the coffee has just taken on a whole new meaning! We've rounded up freshly brewed beauty goods that will remind you of your favorite indulgent drinks fro your go-to coffee joint. Indulge your senses in a swirl of sweet sin, and brim with delight with milky sweeties that will boost your beauty! Set your mug aside and cozy up to this Cafe box and see what's brewing at Memebox!

While that description screams, "coffee!", I've been burned by Memebox descriptions before so I didn't read too much into it. Since the box is called the "Cafe Box," it left the option open in my mind that there would be products inspired from all over the coffee shop: baked goods, whipped cream, teas and cakes etc. While a box full of coffee-stuff would have been fantastic, This one was still intriguing enough to take a chance on.

1. Pure Smile: Original Mask Sheet in "Green Tea"
(Full Size Product: $1)
Ah, Memebox. So you decided to go the route of " General Cafe" instead of all Coffee. OK, we'll roll with it for now.
This is yet another Pure Smile sheet mask in "Green Tea." It contains hyaluronic acid, vitamin E, collagen, arbutin, and green tea extracts that help maintain the skin's moisture/oil balance and firmness. Pure Smile masks have just become par for the course in most Memeboxes. They're pretty much in every single one. I understand they're cheap and easy to toss into a box, especially when you need some filler, but I'd much rather them consider these masks bonus products instead of actual products. As $1 sheet masks go, Pure Smile actually has some nice ones! I used this one in particular last night and it made my skin feel great. I even noticed some temporary whitening. I think the best part about the Pure Smile masks is that they fit my face wonderfully!

2. Binu Cook: Ice Cream Scoop Cacao Body Soap
(Full Size Product: $3)
This little guy is a soap that is shaped like a scoop of chocolate ice cream, and as you would expect, it also smells like chocolate goodness! The company, Binu Cook, creates lots of soaps that look like food or other objects and they're all very realistic-looking! Their soaps are 100% natural and hand-made. They can be used on the facial skin or on the body to remove excess oil and dead skin cells. I haven't used this soap yet, as I think I may gift it to a friend. It's just too cute not to give to someone else and make them smile!

 3. Holika Holika: Dessert Time Lip Balm in "Peach Cupcake"
(Full Size Product: $6)
Holika Holika is an incredibly popular brand, and these little cupcake lip balms are one of the best sellers from their line. They're cute, smell delicious, and you can collect them. What's not to love? There were a few different scents I could have received, but I ended up with Peach Cupcake. I wasn't thrilled with this balm, simply because I prefer something with color payoff, even if it's just a tint. This peach shade has no color at all, although it does smell very nice and feels good on the lips. These are a fun product, but probably just not for me in terms of quality or purpose. They would look damn cute on a vanity shelf, though!

 4. Vella: Fresh Creamy Soap
(Full Size Product: $13)
This was the product that Memebox shared on their facebook page as a sneak peek. Seeing this product was when I knew that the box probably would contain cafe-type things, rather than all coffee-related items. This is a whip cream-textured cleanser and it is enriched donkey milk, 3 kinds of honey complex, 4 kinds of floral extracts, and all kinds of other goodies like witch hazel, propolis extract, and kava extract. Seriously, I'm only tapping the surface of the goodies that are packed into this soap. This soap is also "7 Free" which means it's free of surfactant, paraben, artificial colors/scents, alcohol, mineral oil, and steroid free. Silly me, I was completely unaware that steroids were a problem/frequent ingredient in skincare products? Did I not get the memo?
This soap smells like a fresh, lemony dream. It's thick and creamy but still light and fluffy to the touch. To use this product, You're supposed to massage it onto the skin without allowing your palms to touch your face, but just the product. Just talking about this product makes me want whipped cream. I like this soap because not only is it loaded with excellent skincare ingredients, and void of the bad ones, but it also is a unique style of cleanser that I don't have yet. Very excited to try this one!

 5. Cleomee: Anti-Wrinkle Donkey Lotion
(Full Size Product: $83)
I almost passed out when I saw the $83 price tag on this lotion. I thought there was no way that could be possible, but I saw it for around $68 on the Cleomee website. It's possible that the price rises when being sold by other companies. I also wanted to know WHY it was so expensive, and discovered there's lots of useful information about this lotion on the Cleomee website. If you're interested, it can be viewed here.
If you're interested in just the gist of it, it's a gentle, moisturizing lotion that contains donkey milk, hyaluronic acid, ceramide, glycerin, vitamin E and EGF complex. Memebox says this can be used over face and body, however this is considered a body lotion, so I will use it as such. I am actually really happy to see a body lotion in a Memebox, as they don't come around as often as a facial moisturizer does. This will definitely be used and enjoyed as soon as the weather is getting colder and my skin drier!

6. TonyMoly: Latte Art Cappuccino Cream-In Scrub
(Full Size Product: $13)
If you were starting to wonder, "Where the heck is the COFFEE in this Cafe box?" You'll be happy to see this product. This is the Tonymoly Latte Art Cappuccino Scrub, and it's awesome in so many ways. First of all, just look at it. It's a tiny coffee cup with a spoon sticking out of it. Except the spoon is actually a removable spatula so you can get the product out easily. This stuff also has a light, sweet coffee scent that isn't overbearing, but is still noticeable. The scrub is enriched with milk protein, caffeine and coffee extracts and effectively removes skin-clogging impurities and delivers skin nutrition and elasticity all in one. This product is also highly recommended for rough or darkened skin as well as dryness and flakes.
This product is actually interesting in the sense that it changes color when it's used. The scrubs is spread evenly over an un-wet face and massaged for 3-5 minutes. The scrub changes from brown to white which shows you that it's time to rinse. This can be used once or twice a week. I am afraid to use this product because I want to keep it as a decoration! I know I'm crazy but it's just so cute!

Overall Thoughts
The Cafe Box was $30 shipped and has a retail value of $119. While this is a great value, the vast majority of it comes from the Cleomee lotion at $83. Not including the lotion, the other products combined only have a value of $36, which is not a very good value for Memebox. I also couldn't help but be disappointed in the fact that there's only ONE coffee-related product in the entire box when they made a point to mention coffee multiple times in the original description. I do like that everything in the box is cafe-related in some way. Whether it be a baked good/dessert, whipped cream, milk or tea, each item represents something that you could find in a cafe. I think if they had included one more coffee-type product, it would not only have the value I come to expect from Memebox, but also the right balance of product. I'm pleased with the things I received overall and will use almost everything, but I definitely was expecting something else when I purchased this box.

  1. I was very disappointed in this one. The description specifically said it was a caffeinated box, but only the green tea mask and coffee scrub have anything to do with caffeine.

    1. Agreed, Pegi. I tried to look at it objectively and see that since it was called a "Cafe Box" that there may also be products included that would represent other foods that you'd find in a cafe, but no one can deny how hard they pushed the coffee theme: from the description, to the picture of the coffee cup, they made it seem like this would be primarily a coffee/caffeine box. They could have done a LOT with that them, but this one just seems to fall flat. It's too bad because the ice cream soap and the cupcake would have gone nicely in the My Cute Wishlist boxes, yet they ended up here and the Cute boxes have also fallen flat.

In short, whoever is curating the Memeboxes lately needs to be fired. lol

  2. I honestly don't get the donkey milk stuff. Are people putting donkey milk in their drinks at the cafe? Hrmmm. The TonyMoly scrub is pretty darn cute though!

    1. hahha funny you say that, because I said the same thing when I saw it! I mean...I think they're reaching and going with the whole milk idea, but donkey milk products just don't sound like something I'd want to find in a cafe box. I honestly would have rather purchased the TonyMoly scrub for $12 or so and just skipped this box all together. I do like everything in it, but it wasn't at all what I expected from the theme/description! :(
