Memebox: Step by Step Skincare Review and Unboxing

While Memebox offers lots of variety in their boxes, I've always been partial to skincare-heavy curations. Before my whirlwind romance with Korean skincare, I had an undying obsession with cosmetics. So much so, that I filled my small bedroom with towering storage units filled with an organized chaos of makeup. Any product you could imagine was most likely in my possession. While that might seem like a dream come true to some people, I found it to be exhausting after years of collecting and splurging on the newest and best cosmetics. I always stuck to the same tried-and-true favorites, while occasionally venturing out to test or sample something else. Interestingly enough, if I paired down my cosmetics to just what I used semi-regularly, all of it could fit into a shoe box.
So after burning myself out on cosmetics and realizing that maybe I just liked to HAVE beauty products rather than actually use them, I decided to take a small break from buying makeup outside of my essentials. During that time, I found Korean skincare. I discovered a world that valued beautiful skin, and rather than simply covering up the flaws- you fix and prevent them! What a novel concept, eh? It helped me discover that skincare didn't need to boring and tedious, but fun and pampering.

I mention this little back story, because my obsession with Memeboxes is strongly rooted in my love for new and exciting skincare products. I'm always looking for the next thing to rock my world. And while Memebox does a great job of that, there are occasions where I get boxes that are a bit too makeup-heavy for my liking. So when I saw the Step By Step Skincare box, I knew I had to have it. As someone who cherishes her billion-step routine, it just seemed like the perfect box!
(product info card tells you more information and how to use each product)

If you're new to Memebox, they are a website that sells Korean beauty products, but their most popular items are of course, the Memeboxes. These boxes are full of deluxe samples and full size Korean beauty products and are delivered to you all the way from Korea. Memebox has been kind enough to create a FAQs page that you can view HERE if you want more info on the boxes, as there are many to choose from!

This particular box is one of their Superboxes, which contain all full size products.
"Step-By-Step Skincare" cost $29 plus $6.99 shipping, and includes 6 products.
From Memebox:
Korean skincare is a multi-step daily routine that sparks a ton of intrigue in the beauty world. It's billion-step regimen sounds a bit extreme to outsiders looking in, but it all boils down to treating, hydrating and protecting skin, and preventing damage before it starts!

Let the unboxing of glorious goodies commence!
Mizon: Mojito Punch Pore Toner
(Full Size Product: $22)
Toners are a rare breed in Memeboxes, although lately I've been seeing them pop up a lot more often. Mizon is one of my favorite brands right now, and I've been eyeing this toner for awhile. I shrieked with sheer joy when I saw it was going to be in this box! It's made with ingredients that you'd find in a real mojito: lime, sugar, mineral water, apple and peppermint leaf juice. Even with all those ingredients, I'd say the strongest scent I can detect is lime. This toner prevents skin impurities from clogging pores and delivers nutrients while refreshing dry, tired skin.
The great thing about Korean toners, is that they don't have that astringent quality of many western brands. My sister and I were recently talking about toners, and she said she didn't like to use them, even with her oily skin, because they tended to trigger over-production of oil. I was happy to tell her that Korean toners are wonderful in that they replenish the moisture lost from cleansing, and aren't harsh or stripping. This toner in particularly is amazing, because it doesn't feel drying on the skin, even though it's a toner for people with excess oil and pore issues. I've been using it for a few days and I absolutely love the way it's been making my skin feel. It's so refreshing to apply this on my skin after cleansing.

Taphre: Special Care Sheet Mask
(Full Size Product: $7)
While they're pretty common in Memeboxes, it seems like I've been getting a LOT of boxes that have sheet masks in them! This one is actually pretty pricy at $7, as I'm used to paying $1 or less for mine! This sheet mask is made with propolis extracts, hyaluronic acid, collagen, as well as fruit and nut extracts. These ingredients replenish, repair and protect the skin while soothing and hydrating the skin and giving it a more luminous appearance. This is the only product in this box I haven't tried, and it's only because I've got a massive hoard of sheet masks already. This one will go in the pile with the rest and wait it's turn to be used!

Insobeau: Super Yellow Intense Renew Essence
(Full Size Product: $78)
My jaw almost dropped to the floor when I saw this essence priced at $78. I had a bit of a difficult time finding this online, but I did find some products from the same "super yellow" line that were all being priced at around $50, so I guess it's not too far off. This stuff must be yellow because it's made out of gold or something!
Anyway, lets get on to what this essence actually does. It's essentially and anti-aging essence that is made with an idebenone formula (click the link to read more about what that is, exactly) that treats fine lines and wrinkles while brightening and evening out the complexion. Essences are applied after toner, however if you're like me and have a zillion steps to your skincare, they're applied after chemical exfoliators and sheet mask usage. This medium viscosity essence looks a bit like a thin, yellow lotion, but absorbs into skin very quickly with no residue or stickiness. It has a light citrus scent, which is quite pleasant. I've only been using this for a few days, but so far I love how soft it makes my skin!

Migabee: Royal Jelly & Honey Energy Ampoule
(Full Size Product: $30)
It's like Memebox can read my thoughts, because my mind is always saying, "More Migabee!" This is a newer brand to me, however everything I've tried from them so far has been a mega success in quality, ingredients and performance. This ampoule is highly concentrated, so while it's tiny in stature, you only need a very small amount to do the job. It's enriched with royal jelly and royal honey extracts, and it's used to soothe, moisturize and strengthen the skin. This is a thick, clear, gel-like formula, however it absorbs very quickly, leaving no residue or stickiness. It does have a perfume-like fragrance in the bottle, however once it is massaged into the skin, the scent all but disappears. After a few days of using this, I can only report good things. My skin feels moisturized, no new acne or trouble spots have emerged, and I'm pretty pleased overall. I can't say it's a miracle-worker yet- but we'll have to check back in once I'm finished with the bottle!

She's Uris: Rice Water Double Action Cream
(Full Size Product: $42)
OH yes! My favorite consistency for creams, this opaque gel-cream is a water-drop type cream, (which means it turns into sort-of water droplets when it hits your skin) and is made with rice water, It does all of my favorite things: tone brightening, hydrating and wrinkle refining. Some of the ingredients include rice bran water, adenosine (anti-aging ingredient), cacao extracts and various herbal ingredients. This cream absorbs quickly, although it leaves a slight "moisturized feeling" on the skin rather than completely disappearing. It has a light floral/fresh scent that does linger a bit, so use caution if you're sensitive to fragrance.
I haven't been using this product for very long, but I absolutely LOVE it. I find it to be soothing and non-irritating, and I love how there's no weird "moisturizer residue" left behind when it's applied. Even though it's a water-drop gel, it feels very moisturizing. The past few days using this, I've woken up with bright, refreshed skin. I'm incredibly thrilled with this product so far!

TonyMoly: My Sunny Milky Sun Cream
(Full Size Product: $10)
I find that a lot of people groan in boredom when they get sunscreen in Memeboxes. I am not one of those people. Granted, there was a time that I never wore SPF. I know...but now I wear it every single day, and I can't tell you how much better I feel now that I know I'm protecting my skin!
This mineral oil-free suscreen works to color control uneven skin tone (yessss) and of course, protects skin from UV exposure. It has a gentle formula and leave skin feeling silky and soft with a healthy glow.
This is actually quite different from the sunscreens I already own. The cream itself is densely white in color, which gives it some whitening abilities, hence the claim that it evens skin tone. I might even say that it whitening/evens better than my actual whitening cream. It has a slightly floral scent, but it's very subtle.
The great thing about this "cream" is that it's not really a cream at all. It doesn't feel sticky or greasy and absorbs quickly, which is a rare treat when it comes to sunscreen. So far, this might be the best Korean sunscreen I've used. Granted, I haven't used very many, but it would be hard to beat the whitening properties and texture of this one!

Overall Thoughts
This box cost $29 + $6.99 shipping, and has a total value of $189!! What a value!
I cannot stop swooning over this box. The more I test the product and begin to write my reviews on them, the more I fall in love. I would elope with this box, guys. Not only is it skincare-focused, but it's filled with quality brands and quality products. I dare say that it is probably my favorite Memebox to date, and that's saying something! I usually wait until I finish up products I'm currently using before I incorporate new ones into my regular routine, but these were so tempting that I just couldn't wait to try them. I loved them so much that they've booted out some of the items I was regularly using. If you can find these products for sale, I would highly recommend all of them! Step by Step Skincare is Meme-Royalty in my book!

    1. So glad you enjoyed the review! I hope you can find some of this online! I know the Mizon toner is widely available, so at least there's that! :D It's really fantastic!

  2. Thanks for the review! I was feeling a little down on Memebox lately, since some of the boxes have been less than inspiring. This one, though...looks wonderful!

I purchased the Apple Mojito box, which should ship in a few weeks. I'll be surprised and disappointed if the toner doesn't feature heavily in that box!

    1. I definitely agree that some of the recent Memeboxes have been falling flat, but there have been some gems, this one included! Unfortunately since they're so close together release-wise, I don't know if this toner will be in the mojito box, but honestly...as much as I love it, it SHOULD have been in that box. It's like the perfect item for it! Crossing my fingers that those boxes (mojito, petite treasures, blackout) are good, because I remember they were $19 instead of the usual $23...that made me a bit nervous about their quality- so we'll see!

    1. I'm starting to wish I ordered a LOT of boxes now, considering it seems like they've all but stopped releasing them! :( Hopefully they start rolling them out again in the new year. I'd like to continue to review boxes and not just singular products from them in the future!

  6. What a great review. I got this box amongst about 7 other ones, and it sort of fell by the way side. Now I'm tempted to pull it all out again and start playing with it! These products all look super great, I can't wait to use them all :) #kbeautybloghop

    1. I completely understand how that goes! Sometimes I get 4+ boxes in a week time frame, I quickly review and unbox them and then put the products aside so I can test them out when I get the time. But with SO many products, it's hard to get to everything! That's why i rely on bloggers and the ladies of the memebox thread on makeuptalk to guide me to things they've tried and loved! The skincare addiction runs deep when I don't have enough skin to use all my products on LOL ;)
