Memebox X Holika Holika Review and Unboxing

This box and my From Jeju box must have traveled here from Korea in a raft. Then, they must have taken a covered wagon on a secluded dirt road through the wilderness to get to me. Seriously, I feel like this box shipped ages ago, and I just got it this week.  I swear, Registered Mail will be the death of what's left of my patience!
Holika Holika is one of my favorite Korean brands. Not because I find their products to be the best, but because they really make some fantastically packaged products! The ones I included in the title picture, while not included in this box, are some of my favorites. I love their little witch logo, and how their bottles resemble potions. Granted, as you'll see in this box not all of their products have the same packaging. In fact, I think they might be the company with the widest variety and differences in their packaging/appearance. Take a moment after this review, go to google and look up "Holika Holika store." You'll be mesmerized by how absurdly beautiful their stores are. I would share some photos here, but many of them are owned by other bloggers so I wouldn't want to steal their work! I live in a boring city in MA, so there's no Holika Holika store nearby for me to ever dream about going to. Maybe one day there will be; Considering the massive shift in popularity and interest in Korean products lately, anything is possible!

(product info card tells you more information and how to use each product)
If you're new to Memebox, they are a website that sells Korean beauty products, but their most popular items are of course, the Memeboxes. These boxes are full of deluxe samples and full size Korean beauty products and are delivered to you all the way from Korea. Memebox has been kind enough to create a FAQs page that you can view HERE if you want more info on the boxes, as there are many to choose from!

This particular box is one of their collaboration boxes which are curated with products from a specific brand.
"Holika Holika" cost $32 plus $6.99 shipping.

Holika Holika: Aloe 99% Soothing Gel
(Full Size Product: $7)
Hmm. Well, this is a Holika Holika product, although it's quite possibly the most boring generic product they have. Don't get me wrong, I love an aloe gel. When I first started getting them, I wasn't sure what to use them for other than sunburns. However I came to find out that this stuff is incredibly moisturizing, soothing, and cooling, not to mention very natural, so it can be used anywhere on the body. Memebox suggests using it as a hair treatment, facial cream, eye patch, aftershave, body soothing gel and hand/foot essence. While this product is extremely versatile, Aloe gel tends to come in very large bottles/jars, so I have more than I could ever need already. Not an awful product to include I suppose, but not one I will be keeping.

Holika Holika: Soda Pore Cleansing BB Oil
(Full Size Product: $17)
This was one of the spoilers that Memebox posted on their Facebook page. Seeing this as a spoiler was enough to get me to purchase the box. I've only been using a 2-step cleansing routine on my face for the past 7 months or so, and because of that, I only have one or two bottles of cleansing oil. I'm always looking for new and interesting ones to put in my lineup, and I have come across this Soda Pore Cleansing Oil multiple times in my searches. Since it was on my wishlist, I thought I couldn't go wrong picking up this box if it was included. It's formulated with olive and argan oil as well as harrogate water and increases elasticity, regenerates new skin cells, heals and lightens scars, and acts as an anti-inflammatory agent to soothe irritated skin. It smells absolutely amazing: like a fruity, carbonated soda! While Memebox suggest lathering this product with water as the first step in use, in my experience, it's good to apply cleansing oils onto dry skin with dry hands, and massage it in to break up makeup. Then, begin to add water to your hands and slowly emulsify the product before rinsing and following up with a cream or foam cleanser.

Holika Holika: Neon Beam Nails in "Momo Pink"
(Full Size Product: $4)
Holy moly this is a very bright pink! These polishes are made to be insanely bright, but interestingly enough they also glow in the dark and in UV light. There are 4 different colors that could have been in this box, and I received "Momo Pink." It's very simply, a true Neon Pink. I am not as adventurous with my nails as I am with my makeup. I tend to only use shades in the deep, dark red and purple family on my nails, although I do like a muted pastel on occasion. While I find this shade to be really fun, it doesn't work with my style. I'll be passing it on.

Holika Holika: Jewel-light Shimmer Eyes in "Yogurt"
(Full Size Product: $5)
Ehhhhhhhhh. SO. BORING. The shade is a creamy light brown. It's a tiny single eye shadow. It might be the most boring product in the history of any Memebox. I've tried these shadows in the past and they're not a bad product by any means; I just find them to be incredibly lackluster in regards to this box. These have an almost cooling and silky-feel when applied on the lids. The formula is creamy and "highly-adherent" and pigmented according to Memebox. I do agree that they tend to stick well to your lids, although I use a primer every time I apply shadow. It's just good insurance that your makeup will last the day! These are nicely made shadows for their $5 price point, but I own about 100 shades that are almost identical to this one. No use in carrying a little single shadow around when I have enough neutral palettes to build a house out of!

Holika Holika: Heartful Moisture Lipstick in"Pink Love"
(Full Size Product: $9)
This lipstick was the second spoiler that Memebox released for this box, and it's a product that had been on my wishlist for quite some time. It's not like there's anything particularly special about this lipstick other than the fact that it's ridiculously adorable. I just really wanted a heart-shaped lipstick! There were 3 shade options that could have been included in this box, and I received "Pink Love." It's a very pretty shade and seems like it would be wearable for most people, although it might be a bit bright for some. I am so obsessed with these that I might just buy a few more and give them as little gifts to my friends for the holidays!

Holika Holika: Aqua Petit Jelly Starter
(Full Size Product: $16)
This is a face primer that is quite different from every other primer I have in my makeup collection. It's made with glacier water, mint, and fine aqua pink pearls which give it an almost iridescent glow. It has a jelly-like texture and feels soothing and hydrating when applied to the skin. The application of this product is actually quite interesting. Unscrew the cap, and you'll find a small spatula attached to it. Use it to gather up the amount of product you want to use, then pat the product onto your skin with the included sponge. I personally don't think the sponge is necessary, as my finger tips work just fine to apply a primer. Even so, the sponge is dense and of nice quality, so I might just keep it aside to use for a different purpose.
I wasn't quite sure how to feel about this product at first, but I find that it works beautifully! They definitely push the whole 'glowing complexion' angle with this product, but I find that the real winning attribute is that it works very well to help makeup stay put. I think as soon as I'm done with my current primer, this one is going into regular rotation!

Holika Holika: Sweet Cotton Pore Cover Powder
(Full Size Product: $9)
This is a face powder that is made with lotus water, noni flower water, sugar complex and cotton extract. It is used to cover up uneven skin texture by concealing pores, and locks makeup in place with a silky-soft finish. It comes with a small powder puff, and is applied with such. I've actually tried this powder before, and I didn't find it be any better/worse than most translucent/setting powders in this price range that I've used in the past. I don't necessarily think it's a bad product, but I have so many powders already that I think this one will have to be passed on to someone who will enjoy it more than me!

Holika Holika: Jewel-light Waterproof Eyeliner
(Full Size Product: $6)
There were 8 different Jewel-Light liner shades that could have been included in this box, and I received the shade La Piece La Jolie, which looks to be a royal blue shade. These liners are waterproof, long lasting, and glide on smoothly. I do find they have a short window to smudge them before they set on the skin, so if you're going for a smokey eye, you need to move fast with these. I have a few of these liners, however I wasn't interested in trying this blue shade. I have green eyes, and blues don't tend to flatter me too much, so I'm not sure yet if I want to open it up and play with it, or gift it.

Overall Thoughts
This box cost $32 + $6.99 shipping, and has a total value of $73. Memebox tends to charge around $32 for the branded boxes, and they tend to be an overall lower value than regular Memeboxes. It's very makeup-heavy, which is something I'm usually not interested in. I do think that everything in this box is useable and worth the money I spent, however I'm only positive that I'm keeping 3 items out of 8; Not a huge success. I have to blame it on a combination of not being into makeup boxes, and already being familiar with Holika Holika and owning quite a few of their products already. On the other hand, this box actually is fantastic for anyone who is unfamiliar with Holika Holika. It's a well-rounded collection of items and I think it has a wide variety as well. Overall, this box is great for a new Holika customer, and probably quite boring for someone who's enjoyed their products for quite some time.

  1. Nice products! These products are worth trying.

    1. I agree! This is a great box for someone new to Holika Holika products!

  2. Hey Rachel!
    I got this box too!
I really reallllyyy liked the soda pore cleansing oil-- It was my very first one, and I've always wanted to try a cleansing oil... So it was a great thing to get in my box.
I also really like the lipstick I got. I ended up getting the red one, and I found that it's a really nice shade of red. So if you want to check that out, I highly recommend it!

My very favorite part of this box was the primer. c: It's so cool that it's a sparkly pink creamy jelly-- but smooths on clear! I was mind blown. ahha.

    1. I am loving the cleansing oil so far! I'm glad you're enjoying it too! I remember I was so nervous when I tried oil cleansing for the first time, but if anything, it's helped balance the oil production on my skin rather than make it worse! I'm glad to hear you liked the red lipstick, I might have to pick that one up too! They're just too cute! I agree about the primer too! It's so pretty and has a nice, light scent to it. I'm really happy with that product!

  3. I'm glad that you enjoyed this box, even if you were already familiar with a lot of the things inside it. I'm not much of a makeup person either and I wasn't sure I'd get anything I'd like out of the box, but it looks like there were some lovely things in the box.

    1. I agree! I do love makeup, but I already have a huge collection and I tend to stick to my favorites rather than trying new things like I do with skincare. I think the products they included were versatile enough to work for a lot of different people, even ones that aren't big on makeup. :)

  4. That soda pore cleansing oil looks fantastic! I hope to get something like that in Memebox soon! What is the two step cleansing method you mentioned? My interest has been piqued!

    Great post!

    1. The two step cleansing method would be to use an oil cleanser first to remove makeup and/or dirt and debris from your skin. Once you rinse the oil cleanser off, you would then use a foaming or cream cleanser to actually clean the skin. It's been an absolute lifesaver for me since I started 2-step cleansing!

  5. Rachel you are not good for my wallet. I've just bought a SECOND round of memeshop products from your Haul of Fame. I'm glad the Holika Holika box isn't up for sale anymore because my wallet would be crying uncle... ;) #kbeautybloghop

    1. haha omg I'm not good for my own wallet either! The more I start talking about products here on the blog, the more I start thinking about all the products I want to try and I end up buying even more LOL ;) I'm so glad you're enjoying the items I chose for my Haul of Fame. I hope you love them as much as I do! <3

  6. I was more interested in the TonyMoly box when these were released, but now that I see the contents I wish I had picked up this box! I see a couple of things I want to try - especially the cleansing oil. I probably don't need more aloe gel either though, lol.

  7. We got all of the same colors. Unfortunately, none of them work for me either. Oh, well... can't expect every Memebox to be perfect, especially when so many are! #kbeautybloghop

  8. Ohh it looks like you got some of Holika Holika's best products in this box! ^ w ^
