Memebox Blackout! Review and Unboxing

Memebox did a strange thing that they've never done before: they released 3 boxes at the price of $19 each. There was no explanation as to why these boxes were $4 cheaper than an average box, and they never released boxes at the same price point again. I was curious enough about the contents to go ahead and pick up 2 out of the 3 so I could get the express shipping. I chose Blackout! and Petit Treasures. Unfortunately, I'll say it right here in the first paragraph: the only box I didn't pick (Apple Mojito) just so happened to be the only one that was actually good.

I chose "Blackout!' Because it seemed like there could be a lot of interesting ways to curate it. I've seen a lot of black sheet masks, black-colored creams and masks, and even an entire line of products by Secret Key that's actually called "Blackout!" Those products have always interested me, so I figured Memebox wouldn't be dumb enough not to include at least ONE product from that line, right? Well this is Memebox we're talking about...so you never know.

If you're new to Memebox, they are a website that sells Korean beauty products, but their most popular items are of course, the Memeboxes. These boxes are full of deluxe samples and full size Korean beauty products and are delivered to you all the way from Korea. Memebox has been kind enough to create a FAQs page that you can view HERE if you want more info on the boxes, as there are many to choose from!

This particular box is one of their special edition boxes, which are based around a specific theme.
"Blackout!" cost $19 plus $6.99 shipping, and includes 4 products.

From Memebox:
Black is still the new black! If intensity is your game, take the challenge with this Blackout! Box. Say bye-bye to Miss Plain Jane and turn up the drama in your beauty routine with this Black Box! Packed with all things beauty and black that you can imagine, you'll be surprised at how much intensity this awesome box brings!

 Tosowoong: Black-Head Nose Pack (8ea)
(Full Size Product: $6)
Ah. More nose strips. I'm telling you I have enough nose strips to last me at least 3-4 years. I got some Purederm Chocolate scented nose strips in the Cacao box, and enjoyed them so much that I bought a bundle of 5 boxes on ebay for really cheap. I figured since I use them once or twice a week, I'd have enough to last me a long while. As soon as I did that, pore strips started coming in almost every dang Memebox and beauty bag I received. They're useful, but I don't get enough blackheads to warrant using them often enough to make having a massive stock pile worthwhile.
I do like Tosowoong products though, so I might bump these pore strips to the top of my "to use" list. These are made with morrocan lava clay, charcoal powder and volcanic ash- and the strip is made up of completely natural ingredients.

B&SOAP: Black Block
(Full Size Product: $24)
I'm not a fan of bar soaps, so as soon as I saw this I just wanted to pass it off to my fiance. He's obsessed with bar soaps and uses them exclusively, so I thought he'd love this. However, upon further inspection this soap does seem to be pretty interesting! It's made from charcoal, rosemary and olive oil, and uses those ingredients to help clear pores, soften skin, absorb debris and impurities, and detoxify without irritation. This bar is suggested to be used by anyone with combination or oily skin, however dry skinned people should try to avoid use as it could make the skin even dryer. I didn't realize this was a facial soap until I read the directions, but I'm assuming if it's gentle enough for the face, it's gentle enough for the body as well. I have quite a few facial cleansers, so I'm not bummed out that my fiance swiped this, but I can't wait to see what he thinks of it. Sounds like it could be awesome!

Honest Clinic: Black Hole Spot Treatment
(Full Size Product: $26)
I swear my black cat was obsessed with the Blackout box. He just wanted to be in every damn picture no matter how many times I shooed him off the table!
Anyway, cat-butt photo bombs aside, this is a spot treatment gel that is made from A+BHA complex. It melts away dead skin cells and impurities from the pores as well as the outer surface of skin. It treats acne with just a single application while also brightening and evening out the skin tone. The directions state that this should be dotted onto problem areas of the skin just before going to bed, but not to place anywhere else on your skin other than acne and blemishes, as it could cause redness. If this stuff is that potent, consider me curious. I've got some pesky zits that never seem to let up. We'll see if I can finally get them to go away for good.

L'Cret: Hair Color Keeper Treatment Shampoo
(Full Size Product $42)
More cat butt, more black-themed beauty products! This shampoo is made for those with dyed hair, which luckily I have. It contains sunflower seed, babassu seed oil, and silk proteins that protect the hair color from fading or UV bleaching. It also delivers nutrients to the hair and scalp in order to achieve a healthy moisture/oil balance. I get a lot of shampoos from Memebox, and I've been pretty happy with most of them, including this one. However I can see how this huge product (which is also the high value item in this box) wouldn't be useful to quite a few people. I think they maybe should have included a high value item that could have been used by a larger group of people in general, but hey- I'm just grateful I can use  and enjoy it!

Overall Thoughts
This box cost $19 + $6.99 shipping and has a total value of $98. Unfortunately yet again, many of the products in this box seem over-valued, although I have been wrong about that in the past. Sometimes things that seem like there's no way they would be so expensive ($42 for a shampoo??) will end up being exactly that when I do some research. Regardless, this box isn't anything to cheer about. It's not a bad box for me, but this is a very specific box for people with specific issues. If you don't have acneic skin or color treated hair, then nothing in this box is going to suit you. I was lucky in that I will be able to use everything in this box, I just expected a lot more from this box than what I got. I mean...Secret Key has an entire line of product currently for sale in the Memeshop called Blackout. The line shares the SAME NAME as this box, and not a single product ended up in here? I have said it over and over, but whoever curates these boxes needs to be schooled. Big time.
