Memebox Korea's Most Wanted Review and Unboxing

As a Memebox "Influencer," I occasionally get surprise boxes to review courtesy of Memebox. They are usually boxes that have been out for a few weeks by the time I get them, but Memebox is psychic and they always send me boxes that I missed out on but wished I had received!
The most recent box I received is "Korea's Most Wanted." For this box, Memebox Global teamed up with their sister site, Memebox Korea to curate a box filled with the most coveted products from Korea.
(product info card tells you more information and how to use each product)

If you're new to Memebox, they are a website that sells Korean beauty products, but their most popular items are of course, the Memeboxes. These boxes are full of deluxe samples and full size Korean beauty products and are delivered to you all the way from Korea. Memebox has been kind enough to create a FAQs page that you can view HERE if you want more info on the boxes, as there are many to choose from!

This particular box is one of their superboxes, which are themed boxes that contain all full size products. Korea's Most Wanted has 6 full size items and cost $32 plus $6.99 shipping.

From Memebox:
Did you know that Memebox Global  has an older sister named Memebox Korea?
Both sisters were both born in Seoul, yes, but after Memebox Global's move to San Francisco, and a long time of separation, the sisters are finally doing something fun! This time, it’s a sister act!
Memebox Global and Memebox Korea are teaming up to bring you Korea’s Most Wanted Box, the best of the best in K-Beauty!
Also a global hub for K-beauty-holics and makeup addicts, Memebox Korea carries only the hottest and most up-to-date Korean trends, and she’s giving us everything from hair and body products to makeup and skin care products so that you can get a taste of real Korean beauty! This box retails at over $100, but you can get yours for only $32!

Hope Girl: Nail Travel Bling Bling Set
(Full Size Product: $14)
Hmm. Well...we're not off to the best start, are we? I highly, highly doubt that these Hope Girl nail polishes are on the want-list of Korea's fashionistas, or anyone for that matter. Honestly, I feel bad for Hope Girl. They have a decent product. Their cosmetics are drugstore quality and the packaging is relatively cute if you happen to like everything you own covered in leopard print. However, Memebox must own stock in Hope Girl products, because they squeeze one into almost every single box they come out with. This brand is not that popular or even that well known in Korea, so I find it highly unlikely that these actually belong in this box. My only guess is that maybe gradated polish is a popular trend in Korea, and that's why they were included? Who knows. I already own these polishes. More specifically: this is my 3rd box of them. I'll be passing these on to a friend since I have no want or need for 3 sets.

Blithe: Patting Water in "Energy Yellow Citrus and Honey"
(Full Size Product: $46)
As some of you may know, I frequent and moderate a website called makeuptalk.com, and the girls in the Memebox thread have been raving about this product for awhile now! I was never quite sure what it was or what was so special about it, so I'm excited to finally have my own bottle to play with!
This product is an alternative to a sheet mask, essentially. It removes dead skin cells, delivers moisture and nutrition to the skin, and renews balance for soft, moisturized skin. This particular kind is the Energy Yellow Citrus and Honey. It revitalizes and brightens the skin. I love me some brightening products, so this was the one I was hoping to get! The other options were Green Tea (oil/pore control) and Purple Berry (elasticity and firmness).
To use, fill a bowl or your sink 1/4 of the way with water and then pour in one cap full of the patting water and mix. Then you simply pat the water onto your face for about 30 seconds and let it absorb into your skin without rinsing. I have weird issues with adding things to water in a bowl or in a sink, (I feel like it's super dirty or something) so a few ladies shared that they add this patting water to a spray bottle with water and mist it on their face. You could also purchase the dry paper sheet masks and soak them in this product along with some water to make your own sheet masks. I think I'm going to try the spray-mist idea and see how it goes. I can imagine this stuff lasting a LONG time that way!

Shara Shara: Tinted Style Lip Gloss in "Fuchsia Pink" or "Peach Coral"
(Full Size Product: $11)
I know a lot of people aren't fans of Shara Shara products, but I've actually had good experiences with them so far. This is your standard tinted lip gloss, which are (and have been) pretty popular in the Korean cosmetics world. These work really well to create that famous gradated look on the lips, or it can be used all over the lip for a more vivid look. This tint is soft, creamy and feels nice on the lips, however I didn't find that it stained very well. It was definitely there, but the tint was so light that if the gloss wore away, I don't think the stain left behind would be very noticeable.
I honestly have no idea which shade I received. In the natural light it looks coral, but under certain light it looks more pink. If I had to make an educated guess, I'd say it's the Peach Coral. I usually don't like orange-toned shades but this one isn't horrendous, and will probably look nice when used sparingly.

Makeup Helper: Pact in 'Twinkle Crystal"
(Full Size Product: $23)
Here's a photo of me holding up my prized possession:
Seriously. I LOVE compacts. My mom used to give me her empty powder compacts to play with when I was younger, so maybe it comes from my childhood. There's something about opening up a compact and patting on powder that make me feel super fancy! This one is HUGE and gorgeous. There were 5 different designs I could have received, and while this one isn't the cutest or the prettiest design, it's sparkly, so it wins in my book.
This powder compact is enriched with lemon balm extracts and white flower complex and is designed with a gentle, natural formula. It has a delicate scent that is described as a "rose green floral", however I found it just smelled "clean."
The inside has a gigantic mirror (which I always love and appreciate!) and a soft cushion/sponge. There is a little plastic "door" on top of the powder so you don't have to rest the cushion directly on the product. The powder is very light, which is lucky for me because I'm pale as a ghost. I've only swatched this product on my arm so I can't say how well it works coverage wise, but I'm crazy-excited to try this as soon as possible. It claims to adhere to the skin and provide a long-lasting finish when it's dabbed on, so we'll see!
The best part about my pact is that it says, "Makeup Helper: Perpect Makeup Solution" on the front. PERPECT. Why this makes me laugh so hard, I have no idea, but I can't even type it without laughing!

Pure Skin: Lemon Blueberry Rejuvenating Overnight Mask
(Full Size Product: $46)
As if this box couldn't get any better, they go ahead and throw in a sleeping pack. A lemon-blueberry sleeping pack, to boot! When it comes to skincare, sleeping packs are relatively new to my routine, but also my favorite things to use. I never knew these beauties existed for the longest time until I got into Korean skincare a little over a year ago. If you're unfamiliar, sleeping packs are a gel or a cream that goes on top of all the rest of your skincare products as a final step in your nighttime routine. They hold in all the moisture and skincare goodies you've applied so your skin stays moisturized while you sleep.
This particular pack is enriched with organic superfood ingredients such as lemon water, blueberries and broccoli extracts. It creates a protective, moisturizing barrier over the outer layer of skin and locks in moisture while delivering nutrition deep into the skin.
While this sleeping pack is right up my alley and smells amazing, my mom has already claimed it, so I'll have to settle for the other 6-7 I have waiting to be used in my magical k-beauty storage closet!

Pure Skin: Ice Cooling and Soothing Patch x5
(Full Size Product: $18)
These are cooling and soothing bio cellulose patches that alleviate irritation and cool the skin. They contain water lily extracts, menthol and glacier water which help soothe and cool the skin while tea tree extracts and aloe soothe irritated skin. They adhere to the skin similarly to a eye gel patch. I'm not really into sun tanning, so my skin rarely is irritated or needs cooling, so I don't know when I will actually need these patches. I will probably pass these on to my mom as well!

Overall Thoughts
This box cost $39 shipped, and has a total value of $158. As always, the value is fantastic. I can't tell you how often I've wanted to make an order for K-Beauty products and hesitate because I'm so used to getting such an amazing deal from my Memeboxes!
Korea's Most Wanted wasn't an absolute slam dunk, but it's a really great box filled with a nice variety of products. I was thrown off by the brands included at first, because they weren't my idea of brands that would be considered "most wanted." Now that I'm looking at it, I think that the "most wanted" part was describing the TYPE of product, and not necessarily the brand. Cooling sheets, lip tints, patting water, powder compacts, sleeping packs etc, these things are all very "in" right now, so if that's what they were going for I'd say they did a great job with the curation. Overall, there's really only one product in this box that I had absolutely no interest in (the polishes) and the rest I'm either crazy-excited about, or happily sharing with family and friends!

Embedded Treasures Candles and Gifts Review and Giveaway!

One of my favorite things on the planet is a good surprise. This is the idea that subscription boxes are truly built on, because there's nothing better than a mystery package on your doorstep each month! It's reminiscent of childhood: Christmas morning, birthday parties...those few fantastic days each year where you are given presents wrapped in pretty paper to hide their identity. Very few things are as difficult as waiting to open a particularly tempting present!

I grew up in a house that was always filled to the brim with candles. My mother had them burning everywhere, at all times. She has clearly passed her addiction on to me, and I'm willing to bet there's not a single room in my house that doesn't have a candle sitting in it, waiting to be lit.

I think the reason why I love the new influx of treasure candle companies, is because they mix two of my favorite things: candles and surprises!

A brand-new company to the scene, Embedded Treasures Candles and Gifts  focuses on not only treasure candles, but fun other ways to share the surprise with non-candle lovers!

What's a Treasure Candle?
If you're new to this idea, then you're in for a treat! Treasure Candles have been around for a long time, but just recently they have been gaining in popularity. These candles contain a surprise hidden inside the wax. Some contain jewelry, some contain money, and I'm sure there are some that contain other fun items as well! The value of the prize usually ranges from from $10 all the way to $5,000 or more, so if you're a gambler, be prepared to become addicted!

GIVEAWAY!
Scroll to the end of this review to enter to win TWO products of your choice from Embedded Treasures Candles and Gifts!!

The most amazing thing about Embedded Treasures Candles and Gifts in particular, is that they offer SO much more than just candles with jewelry inside! Embedded Treasures allows you to customize so much of your order. Let's take a look at their available products and the options they have:

For Her
This section of the site is for the candles! Here's are your options:
1. Choose a Candle Scent
2. Choose what type of prize you want in your candles:
- Cash (up to $1,000 USD can be won!)
- Jewelry (you will get a ring, necklace, bracelet OR earrings, and they can be worth up to $5,000 USD!)

You also have the option to "Super Size" your order and receive one of each candle. The cash candle will be guaranteed to have a prize of at least $10 USD.

This is where things get interesting! These don't HAVE to be for a man, but this is the section where you choose a really unique gift! These are Beer steins filled with a snack! Your prize code/value will be hidden inside, and the actual prize will come separately, concealed in a gift bag if necessary.
1. Choose a Snack from the 3 options available
2.Choose what type of prize you want in your beer stein:
- Cash (up to $1,000 USD can be won!)
- Electronic (This is what will come in a separate bag if this option is chosen. You can win anything from headphones to a laptop!!)

You also have the option to "Super Size" your order and receive 2 beer steins with snacks of your choice, and one of each type of prize. The cash beer stein will be guaranteed to have a prize of at least $10 USD.

That's Not All!
Embedded Treasures also has specific gift categories:
These gifts are large wine glasses filled with either bath salts, espresso beans, or jelly beans. (Would also be a great gift for a wedding shower or bridal party!)
You can choose ANY of the prizes to be included in these: jewelry, cash, or an electronic item.
The Super Size option is available for these as well.

These gifts are baby bottles filled with either scented beads, candy pacifiers, or jordan almonds.
You can choose cash or jewelry to be included in these gifts. One special thing about these, is that the jewelry will be the baby's birthstone! What a fun gift for a mother-to-be!
The Super Size option is available for these as well.

So let's take a closer look at the "For Him" and "For Her" selections I made!
So I decided to try out the "For Him" beer stein filled with spicy trail mix. I also decided to choose an electronic item as the gift rather than money, because I felt like it was something different and that Jeff would have something fun to open!
The trail mix is actually ridiculously delicious, and reminds me a bit of some of the snacks I've received from Graze Box.
Inside my trail mix, I found a little baggy with the paper exclaiming what I had won, an what the value was. Hey...not a laptop, but still: a portable speaker is fun!
Since the electronic items come in a concealed bag along with your order, I was able to open it up and see what it was right away. This speaker is actually fantastic!! It's made well, and the sound quality is awesome. Jeff loves that he can clip it onto things, and that it's wireless. He works outside a lot, so he connected his cell phone to this speaker and played music on it while he worked outside. It goes up to 30 feet away wirelessly. Very fun thing to win in our "For Him" beer stein!

As Jeff and I devoured the spicy trail mix from his beer stein, we laid in wait for the gigantic candle to burn down. One of things I noticed about Embedded Treasures Candles, is that there's no sticker on the outside of the candle to indicate where your prize is. This makes it more exciting, but it also makes me want to smash the candle with a hammer so I can just get to the prize, already!
Let me also tell you- these candles are HUGE. I thought Diamond Candles were big, but these take the top spot on sheer size. I chose the Vanilla candle, and it had a warm, almost bakery vanilla scent to it, which I loved. This baby burns for a LONG time too!
I believe these are supposed to be one-wick candles, however for some reason, mine had another wick that poked up about 1/4 of the way down. I'm not sure if it dropped in there during the candle-making process, but it did help burn it down faster! They should consider making 2 or 3 wick candles to help these big boys burn down!
Finally, I couldn't take it anymore. I had burned this candle for 4 days and I was only halfway down. I put it on a hot plate and let all the wax completely melt until I saw the tinfoil packet inside!

While you can receive any type of jewelry, I was lucky enough to receive a beautiful ring. I forgot to take a picture of it, but there is also a paper inside the foil packet that tells you what the ring is made of, what stones there are, and what the estimated retail value of the ring is.

When I opened up my foil packet, I genuinely wasn't expecting to see what I saw:
Sterling Silver, Genuine Amethyst, Lab created white sapphires. Retail Value: $140

Whatttt? After the dozen of rings candles I've received from so many companies...I FINALLY got a ring worth over $10!
Here it is!
Seriously could it be any more gorgeous?! Granted you don't know what type of jewelry you're getting, so I wasn't able to choose my ring size, however this beauty fits my pinky finger so I will wear it there for now! I just can't tell you enough how gorgeous this ring is. The pictures I took don't do it justice!

 Overall Thoughts
Not only am I absolutely thrilled with the high value ring I received, Jeff also loved his bluetooth speaker! I love how incredibly customizable Embedded Treasures makes each gift. There really is a product for every person and occasion you can think of! The only small issue I have is with the packaging; especially with the beer stein. I would have preferred to see the heavier plastic wrapping (like the one that goes over gift baskets) and maybe tied with a bow instead of what seemed to be some plastic wrap laid over the top. I know this is a brand new, start up company so I forgave where they were lacking in presentation. I think a new design for their labels would also do them a great service.
Regardless of my picky appearance issues, the products I received were very high quality, and the prizes contained inside were also absolutely fantastic. I feel incredibly pleased with my products and the experience, and I will absolutely purchase from Embedded Treasures again.

Boxycharm October 2014 Unboxing and Review

Halloween is almost here! Can you feel it?
The crisp New England air, leaves spiraling in the breeze and crunching under foot, jack-o-lanterns glowing on front porches, and those impressive cemetery scenes set up on front lawns... There's just nothing better than this time of year! What makes it even better for me are the Fall/Halloween themed subscription boxes!

Boxycharm is one of the last subscriptions to make it to my doorstep each month, so this being the October box, I was hoping for a tiny bit of spookiness to show up!

Boxycharm is a beauty subscription box that seems to be makeup-heavy, although they do occasionally include hair and skincare as well. Much of the time the products included are full size. The cost is only $21 per month.
The theme this month was "Bewitched", which is fitting for the season! They say this box contains products that will help get subscribers ready to dress up for the season. I don't usually wear a costume on Halloween, but I love to do elaborate, over-the-top makeup each year so I was crossing my fingers for some useful goodies!

1. Coastal Scents Eclipse Concealer Palette ($19.95)
I'm a big fan of Coastal Scents for their combination of affordability as well as quality. I own many of their eye shadow palettes and have eyed this concealer palette many times before. These concealers are actually nice and creamy with a medium to full coverage.
Upon first glance, one tends to think, "This is a waste of money because my skin tone only matches one of those concealer shades." However, this can be used in so many ways that you'll be shocked at how much use you can get out of this palette! The column furthest to the left contains a silvery cream highlight which is great for blending onto the tops of your cheek bones and anywhere that you want the light to catch. There are also 2 color correcting shades: Green and Lavender. Green used to correct redness on the skin, and lavender is really wonderful to brighten and even out skin tone.
There is also a pale, almost yellow-toned concealer which really is a do-it-all kind of shade. This will neutralize redness as well, but also does a number on those pesky purple tones that can pop up under the eyes.
The rest of these concealers are pretty self explanatory as they are there to mimic skin tones. However you can highlight and contour very easily and seamlessly with cream concealers. Using a darker toned cream concealer to contour is great because it's much easier to blend out and appears more natural. Having an array of tones is also great to conceal acne on the chest, legs, shoulders etc, since the skin on your body tends to be different shades. Also, as the seasons change, so does the color of your skin, so having an arsenal of shades at your fingertips is very helpful!

2. Be a Bombshell Cosmetics: Eyeshadow in "Halo" ($14)
I hate this brand. So much. I barely have words for it. While the shadow colors varied in the box this month, I was lucky enough to get the most boring shade known to man: white. I rarely use single shadows, as I feel like they're too bulky to have dozens of, and it's much easier just to grab a palette and have every shade you need to create a look. Be a Bombshell has mediocre drugstore quality products, overprices them to make it seem like they're better then they are, and then puts their products in every single subscription box known to man until everyone is sick of seeing their name. The packaging feels cheap, the color payoff is sub par, and the staying power is hilariously bad. I would pay $4-$5 for this shadow, not $14.

3. CULT/COMMERCE X BoxyCharm: "Shady" Collections ($21)
This is a polish duo that looks like it was MADE for Halloween! There's a smokey grey/black shade and a shimmery/metallic royal purple. I love how perfect they are for the season!
Having said that, these polishes have had so much controversy surrounding them since this box was mailed out. Firstly, the brushes are rock hard and pretty much unusable. There were many complaints about this, and BoxyCharm claimed that the retailer coated the brushes so that they "wouldn't fray during shipping." Have you ever heard of such a thing? If this was such a huge problem, wouldn't every nail polish company do this? To me, it just sounds like a bad excuse for a cheap brush. BoxyCharm did suggest a way to fix the issue, and that is to soak the brushes in nail polish remover to loosen them up. I haven't tried it yet, but I'll be happy enough if the solution works. I really like these shades and I'm hoping they'll be decent quality polishes once I get them on my nails!

4. Palmetto Derma Collagen Booster and Restoration Serum ($48)
This is a serum that protects from premature aging and creates youthful, glowing skin throughout the day and night. It contains vitamin C and hyaluronic acid, both of which I love and so does my skin. There isn't a lot of information about this brand or product, although I did find some sparkling reviews on amazon. Granted, those could be planted reviews as there is so few, so I'm not sure how well this product works. It does say that it's good for sensitive skin which is a plus especially when dealing with vitamin C, as it can sometimes cause breakouts if it's formulated too strongly. I have zillions of skincare products thanks to Memebox, so I will be passing this on to my mom!

5. Starlooks Ultra Gem Pencil in "Ultra Olive" ($14)
This liner is fabulous! I don't have any olive green shades at the moment, and since I love a good smokey eye, I am dreaming of an olive smokey look. The pigmentation is gorgeous, and the liner glides on beautifully.
I used to subscribe to the Starlooks Starbox, so I already have quite a bit of Starlooks makeup. I didn't unsubscribe because I disliked their products, but more so because I just had too much stuff! Starlooks is medium to high quality, although I do find them to be a tad bit overpriced. If you are interested in their line, you can save a ton of money by subscribing to their Starbox, which is $15 a month. You usually get about 3 products in each box, and the value is fantastic. Highly recommended!

Overall Thoughts
This box cost $21 and the total value of all the included products is about $117. The value of Boxycharm is still outstanding, although I was a bit disappointed with this month. Everything is nice enough-but there's nothing that blew me out of the water, aside from maybe the concealer palette. The value is also a bit hazy, as I base value on what I would pay for a product, and not what the retail value is. The concealer palette is listed at $19.95, however I have seen it on sale for half that price many, many times on the Coastal Scents site. Also, the Be a Bombshell shadow and the nail polishes are clearly marked up. I'd say the value here for me personally, is probably around $60. That is still good for me. I'm happy as long as I get more than my money's worth. I'm just hoping next month there is a really special item, similar to the Tarte gloss from September.
Overall, I'm up in the air. This is only my second month with Boxycharm, and my first month was fantastic. I don't hate this box at all, it just wasn't very exciting. I'm not quite sure how I feel about this subscription yet, but so far I feel like it's worth the money to continue to get it.
Until Next Month!

If you're interested in signing up for Boxycharm, I believe they have a short waiting list, so I would jump on it now if you are hoping for a November box! You can sign up here: Get BoxyCharm!
