Memebox Winter Essential Masks Review and Unboxing

Massachusetts Winters can be brutal. Luckily I'm used to the crazy New England weather, but nothing makes my skin more unhappy than freezing temperatures. This year, I've been working really hard to keep the skin on my face and body as moisturized as possible, but there are still days I come home from running errands and feel my face getting tight, looking red and all-around irritated from the cold wind.
Memebox released this box not too long ago, and I felt like it had potential to be a really useful box for me. I love masks and I would love a moisturizing boost for this chilly winter. I figured that I couldn't go wrong with this one!

I was disappointed to see that one of the products had leaked absolutely everywhere. While it looks like I took a bite out of this info card below, it actually was stuck to the top of the box since it was soaked in sticky patting water!
(product info card tells you more information and how to use each product. Some recent boxes have included these types of cards, which direct you to a virtual info card on the Memebox website.)

If you're new to Memebox, they are a website that sells Korean beauty products, but their most popular items are of course, the Memeboxes. These boxes are full of deluxe samples and full size Korean beauty products and are delivered to you all the way from Korea. Memebox has been kind enough to create a FAQs page that you can view HERE if you want more info on the boxes, as there are many to choose from!

This particular box is one of their special edition boxes, which are based around a specific theme.
"Winter Essential Masks" cost $23 plus $6.99 shipping, and includes 6 products.

From Memebox:
The winter season is the most festive time of the year, filled with holiday parties and homeward travels. While winter wonderland may be all fun and games for the mind and soul, it's not the same story for the skin! During the winter season, your skin needs more lovin', especially with the constant switching between moisture-sucking indoor heating to frigid cold outdoor temperatures. The harsh environment leaves skin dull, flaky, and as dry-as-a-desert. No matter how much makeup and moisturizer you slather onto your face, when skin cells are dehydrated and malnourished, no amount of highlighter or luminizer will bring back that radiance.  Fret not, because your winter skin care solution is right here. This box, full of winter’s essential masks, caters to all winter skincare needs. Each mask is formulated with unique potent ingredients designed to nourish the skin cells and instantly restore lost radiance. Hydrate, renew, and revitalize the skin for noticeably smoother, velvety, younger-looking skin!

RiRe: Patting Water Pack in "Brightening"
(Full size product: $42)
I feel kind of bad for this Patting Water. Not only did it leak all over the place, but it looks like it's trying so hard to live up to the Blithe Patting Water. But it's failing...kind of miserably. It's not that I won't try this patting water out, it's just that the Blithe version is packaged beautifully, and has much better ingredients. Even so, I did get the brightening formula this time around, which most of you know I am ALL about brightening!  Patting Water helps balance the skin's PH level while removing dead skin cells, enhancing the skin's tone and texture and providing nutrients to make the complexion more clear and smooth. This purple patting water is made with violet extracts, which help brighten and balance uneven skin tone.
Patting Waters are used in place of sheet masks most of the time. I use them by placing a bowl or a basin in my sink, filling it 2/3rds of the way with room temperature water and then add 1-2 capfuls of patting water to the basin. Mix well and then splash/pat the water all over the face 15-20 times, and do not rinse afterwards.
I do find that these can occasionally be more trouble than they're worth, but patting waters are definitely a fun "extra step" to your skincare routine when your skin needs an extra boost.

PURE SMILE: Jewelry Bubble Ruby & Pure Bubble Royal Jelly
(Full Size Product: $2 ea)
Here are two more wash-off mask packs from Pure Smile. One contains ruby extracts and the other is made with royal jelly. The Jewelry Bubble Ruby pack is a skin soothing and replenishing formula that contains ruby powder, green tea, hyaluronic acid, aloe vera leaf, glycerin, vitamin E, and portulaca extracts. The Pure Bubble Royal Jelly pack is enriched with over 40 kinds of vitamins and minerals and helps treat acne-prone skin types by deeply cleansing the pores and nourishing damaged skin. I'm particularly interested in the Royal Jelly mask, as my face has been producing some pretty angry hormonal acne that I would love to get rid of!
These are used a bit differently from regular masks. The directions state to spread these over a clean towel-dried face, and to continue massaging it in as bubbles form and penetrate your pores. Then rinse off with lukewarm water once the bubbles subside.
Esthetic House: Collagen Jelly Mask Pack
(Full size product: $13)
This cream is rich in collagen peptides that are extracted from pork rinds...which is interesting? This mask pack is applied and left on the skin without rinsing. It absorbs easily, and leaves skin more firm, nourished, moisturized and freshened.
I cannot tell you how many collagen-based products I've received from Memebox, and none of them have worked that well for me. The last product I used was a sleeping pack made from pig collagen, and while it seemed to work well at first, it ended up breaking me out, so I stopped using it. I've been skeptical of collagen-based creams ever since, so I will probably be passing this on.

Lassie'el: Raspberry Age Defying Yogurt Massage Masks x4
(Full size product: $6)
These are little 1-2 use packets of Raspberry Yogurt Mask. They're used to replenish and revive dull skin, as yogurt sloughs away dead skin cells and impurities and prevents oxidation of the skin. It also contains lactobacillus and raspberry extracts as well as collagen (so much collagen in ths box!) which all work to fight against wrinkles and sagging skin.
These are pretty easy to use. You spread them over a clean face, like you would any other mask. There are little beads in this product, so it's suggested to massage the mask into the skin until the microbeads burst/dissolve. Leave on the skin for 5-10 minutes and then rinse with lukewarm water.
I usually take a very long time to use up wash-off masks because I always prefer a sheet mask due to how easy they are to use. I do love that Lassie'el provided a plastic cover so you can save whats left in the container for a second application!

Velieve: Girlish Masks in "Moisture, Soothing, and Shining"
( Full size product: $7)
I can't even take how sassy these gals are! They have clearly had enough of your bad skin and lack of sheet mask usage. The Aloe Soothing mask girl is particularly fed up with my crap, apparently!
These were randomly selected from 4 types, and the one I did not get was the Collagen Lifting mask. I'm fine with that, as I did get a collagen mask in this box already. The Honey Moisture mask nourishes and moisturizes the skin, the Shining mask contains lemon extracts for brightening the skin, and the Aloe Soothing mask contains Aloe (obviously) for moisturizing and soothing the skin. These are pulp-type sheet masks, which tend to be on the thin side, although they do adhere more closely and tightly to my skin in my past experiences with them.
Inoface: Real Natural Pulp Essence Sheet Mask in "Collagen"
(Full Size Product: $2)
This sheet mask was chosen at random from a selection of Snail, Q10, Collagen and Aloe. I was kind of hoping for the snail mask, but really, I'm just happy to see so many sheet masks in this box! They're one of my biggest addictions since I use them almost every night! There's not mucht to say about this sheet mask- it's pretty basic, but I'll definitely be trying it out!
Overall Thoughts
This box cost $23 + $6.99 shipping, and as a total value of $74.
I'm not absolutely in love with this box, nor did it blow me away, but I am very pleased with the variety as well as the amount of sheet masks included! Sheet masks are my favorite due to their ease of use, however I am pretty happy to see lots of little mask packs as well. The patting water is one of those things I'm excited to see included, although I don't know how often I will actually use it. The only thing I'll probably be passing on is the Collagen pack. I think this is a great Winter Essentials box, although I wish there was a moisturizing, cream or sleeping pack in place of the collagen pack. That would have made it perfect for me!

  2. SASSY!!! I'm surprised there weren't any sleeping packs in the box, though I suppose you could use the collagen pack for that purpose.

    1. I think you definitely could, although the last collagen sleeping pack I used didn't work so well for me. This one seems to go for a pretty high price on testerkorea, so maybe it's pretty good? No idea, but I've decided to stay away from Pig collagen creams/jelly-textured masks of any kind just in case!

  3. Aww, it's kind of a cute box. Those Raspberry packs are the same brand as those super cute sleeping packs we got in... uh... whatever box that was. The ones shaped like shells, mangoes and avocados. You know.
I read somewhere science-y that collagen products don't actually do any good unless you're eating them because the molecules are too large to fit through the layers of our skin to the ones where it might make a difference. /sigh
I still need to try my patting water! I wonder where I put it...

    1. As cute as those sleeping packs were, they I tried the avocado one and it smells SO INTENSELY like hairspray and alcohol that it was making me gag. It is weirdly thick and there is a TON of product in those little containers, but I slathered it on anyway for the sake of science I guess? LOL Weirdly enough, even though it was like a half an inch thick, within minutes it felt completely gone/absorbed. I felt like it wasn't really working as a sleeping pack for me. :(
I dont' think collagen products have done me any good, so I definitely wouldn't doubt that theory!

  4. The box looks great! I am so excited to get mine too! So many fun masks, so little time to use them. It's awful that the Patting Water Pack leaked. I really hope that doesn't happen to me. Great post, as always!

    1. It seems like MOST people had a leaking issue with the patting water, although some were lucky. I hope you were one of them! ;)

  5. I am so excited for this box and can't wait for mine to arrive! I love the Lassie'el packs, got all 5 kinds. The lid is so helpful because I can usually get 3 uses out of each pack. The pig collagen pack you got before did it smell? I've never tried anything like it and don't want to smell like I'm putting pig on my face lol. #kbeautybloghop

    1. I am obsessed with the fact that they added the lid! I have used paperclips and tape so often with these "one-time use" packs because I agree- there is always WAY too much!
And I have gotten a LOT of pig collagen products and they've never smelled bad, so no worries! They smell like a typical skincare product, fresh/a bit floral. I haven't opened this one so it's possible it doesn't have a scent at all!

  6. Those masks though. So cute! Reminds me of the Beauty People Snow White sets. I like my cosmetics with some attitude! Excellent review!! #kbeautybloghop
