PopSugar Must Have Box January 2015 Review and Unboxing

Ahhh I cannot believe how long it's been since I've updated! I thought it had been over a week at this point, but it seems like I made it just under the wire. It's been a crazy week! First I had a ton of stuff going on at work, and I was so tired when I came home that I slept most of the days away! I work at an aftercare program at a school with very little kids, which is so much fun, but it also means lots of germs when I'm high-fiving little hands and getting sneezed on all day. So of course, I got super sick! I'm just starting to recover now, so I thought it would be a good time to get going on some blog posts! I'm so backlogged that I'm going to have quite a few coming in the next couple of days!

The first post I wanted to do was of course, My January PopSugar Must Have Box! Most of you know by now that this is my all-time favorite subscription, and for good reason! I love how much variety is in the box every month- It's one of the few subscriptions that really feels like a little present to me each month!

The Cost
PopSugar is $39.99 per month, however you can save more by buying a longer subscription, or if you gift yourself a box each month, you can use the frequent coupon codes they have available (usually monthly) that range from $5 off ( use code: REFER5), to sometimes up to $20 off!
Each month, The PopSugar founder and Editor in Chief puts a list of words on the info card that inspired that months box. This month was inspired by:
Rejuvenate, Fresh Start, Snow, Glimmer, Energize and Refresh.

So let's dig into the January Box and see what's cookin!
Skin Jewel Tattoos ($18)
I'm a little old to know what's in style these days, however I've been seeing these gold and silver tribal-style tattoos popping up quite a bit in fashion spreads and instagram photos. I also know a different version of these are included in this months BoxyCharm. These particular tattoos can also be used as nail art, which is kind of fun! At first I thought I was probably a bit too old for these, but hey- age is just a number, right? I think these could be fun to use on a girls night out, or maybe as an anklet or fun jewelry to wear at the beach once the warmer weather hits.

ToGoSpa: Eye Gels ($12.50)
Everyone knows my eye gel patch love know no bounds. I use eye patches every single morning. The first thing I do when I wake up is use a cleansing wipe to remove any film leftover from my sleeping pack as well as my spot treatment, apply a little Essence to my skin and then stick on some eye gels. I hate waking up and jetting around getting ready for work, so I always get up early to make sure I have time to lounge a bit iwth a cup of coffee (or two) before I start the day. These are the perfect skincare product to put on the AM to help with the puffiness around my eyes and the dark circles from staying up way too late. I haven't tried these eye gels in particular yet, but I'm super excited to put them into my routine soon!

Manduka: eQua Hand Towel ($16)
This is a super-absorbent multipurpose towel that is specifically geared toward people who do Yoga. Granted I have a Yoga mat and I keep telling myself that one day I will be one of those super calm, yoga-doing people, but I've yet to get myself to that point. I'm sure there are lots of ways to use this towel, even if it's just to toss in your gym bag to wipe sweat away, clean off the ol' yoga mat etc. I'm not sure if I'm going to keep this or gift it yet, but it's still an interesting addition to this box!

Jack + Lucy: Pom Pom Hat ($32)
What a perfect addition to a January box! Last year, we received some gloves from the same brand, but I think I like this hat even more! Pom Pom hats are also a newly "in" thing that I wasn't aware of (the high school kids that I work with tell me they're "super in") and I think this hat is a really great way for me to get away with the trend without looking childish. It's a slouchy hat, which I love, but if you're more into the fitted beanie, the bottom can be cuffed and it still looks super cute. Very versatile and will look awesome with any winter ensemble!

KeepCup: Brew 12-Ounce Reusable Cup ($26)
Another perfect item for a January box! This durable, reusable glass cup is the perfect companion for my Keurig! It's great when I need to grab a coffee and run. The mouth piece can be closed with a little rotating top that kind of snaps in place to avoid leaking, and I think it's just way too cute! I'll be the first to admit I could go through a 12oz cup of coffee in minutes, but since it's about the amount that my mugs hold, I'll definitely get some good use out of this!

General Mills: Nature Valley Chocolate and Peanut Butter Protein Granola ($3.68)
PopSugar always adds in a little bonus item that is usually from the drugstore, or is a fun snack of some kind. This month was this delicious granola. I have purchased the regular dark chocolate version of this granola and I love it on top of some oatmeal or yogurt, or even right out of the bag! I eat a high-protein, low carb diet, so this is one of those things that feels like a dessert, but I'm also getting some protein in there as well. Bonus: it tastes awesome!

First Aid Beauty: Ultra Repair Cream ($28)
Unfortunately, this product was missing from my box upon arrival, so I won't be able to give you my first impressions on it, however PopSugar has excellent customer service when it comes to this stuff, and a few hours after I sent an e-mail to them, they already had it on the way to me! Yay!
This cream is free of fragrance, harsh chemicals and parabens, and can be used all over the body. Seems like the perfect thing to have on hand during these frigid winter days!

Overall Thoughts
This box retails at $40, and has a total value of just over $136
Yet again, PopSugar delivers outstanding value, relevant curation, and a fun variety of products! I am rarely disappointed with this box, and this month is no exception!
One of the most fun months for PopSugar each year is February, as they usually take the Valentines Day theme and run with it! Last year we got some fun makeup, a jewelry holder and lots of other goodies, so I'm excited to see what's in store this year!

If you're interested in signing up for a PopSugar subscription, you can do that HERE.

  1. this is a nice box, Rachel! I actually got it with that flash sale (or I hope I did - I still don't have an email confirmation, but it did go thru). I might even wear a HAT this year (my hair + hat = that is me in the dictionary under hat hair). I like the cup, yoga towel & eye gels and granola is always good to have. I am glad you are on the mend, it is my turn now to have the creeping crud of sickness...I hate winter.

    1. I'm sure you got it! I didn't get a confirmation, nor did I get a shipping notification- it just randomly showed up on my doorstep, so you should be fine! The good news is- if something does go wrong PopSugar is really great with their customer service, so it should get taken care of in the event that it doesn't show up. I don't usually wear a hat either because of hat hair haha, but this one rests really lightly on my head so when I take it off I just fluff my hair a bit and it's all good again! :)

  2. Your hat is blue and I love it! I didn't realize there were variations, mine is black with a brownish cream pompom :D

    1. ahhh actually mine is also a greyish-black with a brown-cream pompom. The natural sunlight is making it look blue, unfortunately! Now that I'm looking at the pic I would have loved a blue variation! LOL

  3. Hope you're feeling better by now! I want that cup. I have a travel mug but it makes weird hissing noises when I put hot liquid in it. Probably not supposed to do that?
