Harlot Beauty: Empties Update!

This is a super exciting post for me: My very first Empties Update! The main reason why I haven't done a post like this before is I'm admittedly a neat freak. Just knowing I have a box full of empty bottles that could be tossed away is just grating to me for some reason, and I always end up throwing them away before I can build up enough to make a post. However, I love reading empties posts because there's no better way to form a solid opinion on a product than using an entire container of it! Bloggers get a LOT of products to review, so it's always impressive to me when I actually take stock of my trashed containers and see what I've used up!

This is about 1-2 months of saved up empties, so I separated them into 3 categories, and I'm going to give you a quick rundown of what I thought of each one, which ones I would buy again, or boot. So let's dig into my trash!

Skincare (Face)
Lioele Waterdrop Sleeping Pack
This sleeping pack made it onto my Favorites of 2014 list, and for good reason. It's one of the first sleeping packs I ever tried, and still remains the one I reach for time and time again. It's a very light gel-type formula that almost turns to a watery consistency the moment you sweep in on your skin. It's perfect for the summer months, or year round for people with combination or oily skin. I love that when I wake up, this pack doesn't leave me with an oily film on my face like others I've tried, and it has never broken me out or irritated my skin.
Verdict: BUY

Herb & Bee A.C Control Serum
Another one of my 2014 Favorites! This serum is absolutely fantastic for my combination acne-prone skin. It has a slight herbal scent, and feels/acts similarly to my Benton Snail Bee High Content Essence. It manages troubled skin very well, and doesn't feel heavy or sticky on my skin, which I love!
Verdict: BUY

Ladykin Broccoli Essence Toner
I got this toner from my sister as I missed out on the Memebox it came in originally. I absolute love the formula of this toner. It feels super soothing and really brings back some moisture after cleansing. It has a lovely scent too. It was great on my combination skin, and didn't have an irritating effects. While a lot of people like the pump, I found that it was a bit difficult to get it on a cotton round without some of the product spilling down underneath the pump. It wasn't too bad once I got the hang of it, but I'd rather use a different applicator.
Verdict: BUY

To the Nature Black Colored Rice Hydrogel Eye Patches
I LOVE these eye patches. These have a wet, gel-like side and a fabric side, although the entire patch feels soaked with essence. You can actually see that the gel on these has almost disappeared/completely absorbed after wearing them for 15-20 minutes. I do like to leave this on as long as possible, though; They just feel so soothing! I have noticed a significant change in the puffiness and dark circles around my eyes when I use these. The unfortunate thing is their very difficult to come across. Even when I requested them from TesterKorea, they put up the large amount in a jar container rather than the individual packets. I won't give up searching for these, though!
Verdict: BUY

The Face Shop Herb Day Cleansing Tissues
While I'm sure there are plenty of cleansing Tissues that work just as well as these, I've had a great experience with these ones in particular. They have such a nice herbal-floral scent, and the perfect amount of moistness to really clean the makeup off my face. They're also insanely inexpensive. I use these to take off my spot treatments and sleeping pack first thing in the morning, and as you can see from the picture, I go through quite a few of them! As I'm typing this, I have officially gone through 5 packages of 20 wipes. I think I need to invest in the larger packages in the future!
Verdict: BUY

Charmzone Ginkgo Natural Cleansing Tissues
These are some other cleansing tissues I got in a past Memebox, and I was using my backup of random packages when I ran out of the Herb Day tissues. These are pretty standard wipes. While they did the job, I wasn't particularly blown away by their performance or the quality of the wipes themselves. I used them up, but not planning on getting any more in the future.
Verdict: BOOT

Insobeau Acnic Blemish Spot Solution
These pink spot solutions are pretty common in the kbeauty world. Many different brands tend to carry their own versions and I own a few varieties, but this just happened to be the first I grabbed for when I had a bad breakout. Basically, there is a pink powder that sits at the bottom of the container, and a liquid at the top. You place a cotton swab down into the liquid and continue down until you hit the powder, then remove the swab. You'll end up with a pink paste that you can dot onto your breakouts. I like this because it dries completely so I'm not getting it all over my pillow when I sleep, but I do notice it will flake off if I move my face too much. While I do like these pink powder spot treatments, I didn't think this one worked as well as my Lioele one, or even some of the other spot treatments I have. It did help with the healing process, but not fast enough for my liking.
Verdict: BOOT

Olay Fresh Effects 'Everything Off' Makeup Removal Cloths
I got these in a Walmart Beauty Box, and ended up using them when my Herb Day wipes ran out. They have a really pleasant fruity-fresh scent and are quite large, which was nice. However, I did notice that toward the end of this package (I believe there were only 5 wipes in here) that my skin was looking a little irritated. I don't know if there's a chemical or ingredient in these that my skin didn't like, but with all the other cleansing cloths on the market that are much cheaper than these, I definitely wouldn't recommend them
Verdict: BOOT

IASO Intensive Clear Conditioner Wipes
These came in a past Memebox as well, and they're supposed to be used right after cleansing as a way to re-moisturize your skin. They are pretty small in size- about half the size of a regular cleansing wipe. I didn't use these for their intended purpose because I didn't want to add yet another step to my routine. I used these as I do my other wipes: to remove spot treatments and sleeping packs in the morning. I thought these were nice enough, but the package was tiny as were the wipes, and they're not cheap, so I won't be picking these up again.
Verdict: BOOT

Skincare (Body)
Ladykin Mangchee Replenishing Hand Cream
Oh this hand cream is just lovely! This came in the Wine and Cheese Memebox, and I kind of set it aside for awhile because I already had about 4 hand cream open and strewn about everywhere. I finally got around to trying this, and I have to say it's better than most hand creams I own. It smells mildly of mangoes, and has a thick, moisturizing texture. Even though it's rich, it absorbs beautifully into my skin and is one of the only hand creams I've used that makes a visible difference in the smoothness of my skin. Would love to get my hands on another one of these asap!
Verdict: BUY

Whish Body Butter in "Almond"
A Harlot Beauty 2014 Favorite, this body butter is to die for! I love the high quality-feel of the packaging of the Whish product line.  The pump applicator is fantastic; You get every last drop out of these since it pushes the lotion up from the bottom. While this is called a body butter, it's more in between that and a regular lotion consistency-wise. It absorbs well, keeps my skin feeling super soft all day, and the scent is to die for. If you like almond scents, this is a must have!
Verdict: BUY

Holika Holika Aloe Body Wash
I'm pretty picky with my Body Wash. For some reason, the skin on my body is sometimes more sensitive than my face, and I can end up with cysts, ingrown hairs, rashes, irritation and acne with just one use of something that my skin doesn't like. I have to be very careful with the body washes I use, but luckily this one was a dream! It might not be a huge favorite of mine, but it felt super moisturizing as well as gentle on my skin. I had not a single issue the entire time I was using it, and it's also pretty inexpensive. While this doesn't beat out some of my tried-and-true body washes, it's definitely one I would consider buying again during a sale or a kbeauty haul.
Verdict: BUY

Bath and Body Works Salted Caramel Foaming Hand Soap
Foaming hand soaps are my jam! The Bath and Body Works ones in particular are fantastic because they come in such a wide variety of scents. They also sell little covers for them to make them look super cute in your bathroom! This one sounded perfect for the holiday season, however I found that it smells a bit like alcohol. Not rubbing alcohol, but booze. I can't put my finger on it, but whenever someone in my house would use it, I found that it reminded me of what someone's breath smells like after they've taken 10 shots. Not a fan.
Verdict: BOOT

Pure Smile Snail Hand Cream in "Milk"
This is THE hand cream for anyone who doesn't like hand cream. I spent a long time not using hand lotion in general because I hated the way it left a greasy residue after applying. This one is thin in consistency, and absorbs incredibly fast. You could apply it repeatedly and it would take 3-4 applications to really start feeling a residue. It has a light milk scent, contains snail mucin, and packs a moisturizing punch. When I can find a thinner lotion that still successfully moisturizes my hands in the Winter, I know it's a keeper!
Verdict: BUY

Mizon Olive Cocoa Butter Foot Cream
I have sang the praises of this Foot Cream to anyone who will listen. I am super lazy when it comes to taking care of my feet. I walk around barefoot as much as I possibly can, so dry skin and calluses are pretty common for me. Let me tell you this: if you take an hour of time to scrub your feet, file the dry skin and calluses down etc, you won't have to do it again for a long, long time if you use this stuff nightly. At the very end of my skincare routine, I will slather this stuff on my feet right before bed. It has truly been months since I've needed to have a serious foot-care session. The scent is delish, the thickness is fantastic, but it also absorbs nicely and has an almost powder-like finish. A must-have in my opinion!
Verdict: BUY

Purederm Callus Reducer Heel Patches in "Jojoba"
This is another past Memebox product that I absolutely loved, but have had a hard time finding for a reasonable price. I've come across them on ebay for about $10 per box, but let me be clear: there are 4 patches in one box, or in other words: two applications. $5 per application is a little steep for me. These are absolutely amazing at lessening the rough, thick skin around your heels, though! They kind of look like a large bandage with a moisturizing pad in the center. They are wrapped around your heel and left on overnight. These stick very well to my skin as long as I don't apply lotion right beforehand. I'm always amazed at how soft and moisturized my heels look and feel after using these. I've gone through 2 boxes so far, and while I'm hesitant to spend $10 on another box...I might just have to give in!
Verdict: BUY

Makeup
City Color Cosmetics HD Powder
City Color Cosmetics is an online brand with very low cost cosmetics. I think they have some great products with fantastic color payoff, however this HD Powder was only so-so. It made my face feel...strange. I can't really put my finger on it. When I appled a bit of this to the back of my hand, I noticed it makes my skin feel super soft. But on the face, it just feels like a suffocating layer that just sits on top of my skin. It did look nice as a finisher over my makeup, but I just can't get past the feeling it has on my skin.
Verdict: BOOT

Bite Beauty Lipstick in "Pepper"
This is a sample-size tube, however it lasted me forever! Bite Beauty makes my all-time favorite lipstick formula. This is some intensely pigmented stuff. It lasts on my lips for hours and hours, even after drinking coffee all day at work. The shade Pepper is a pink mauve that borders on mid-tone nude, but it's super flattering and doesn't wash out my skin tone. It's probably one of my favorite every day shades. Regardless of the shade itself, these Bite Beauty lipsticks in general are definitely splurge-worthy!
Verdict: BUY

Rimmel Lash Excelerator Endless Mascara
I ended up liking this mascara WAY more than I thought I would! I'm always reaching for products that have appealing packaging, and something about this mascara's tube just turned me off. It just looks cheap and very 80's. I actually got this for free from an Influenster program, but it took me months to finally crack it open and try it. I think Rimmel makes some of the best mascaras in the drugstore along with Maybelline, and this one is right up there with my favorites. While I didn't find that it gave a TON of volume, it did give some. What it does do for my lashes is provide a ton of length and no clumps or flaking. It's pretty nice after just one coat, but you can really build this up well without making your lashes look like clumpy spiders. I liked this enough to actually go out and pick up another tube, and that's saying something considering I have enough mascaras in my collection to last me over a year.
Verdict: BUY

I had a lot of luck with my empties this time around! In the future, I'm planning on featuring some products here that I've stopped using before they've become empties. I feel like there are a lot of things I've tossed out because I really disliked them and couldn't finish them up. It's always good to let you guys know about those dud products so you can steer clear!

  1. Nice I love empties posts! I do include items I throw out before they are gone in my empties posts as I often don't use something up if I don't like it!

    1. It's definitely a good idea! I rarely have products like that laying around because I tend to give them to my mom or my sisters, but I might hang onto them long enough to include them in future empties posts!

  2. I love empties posts! I think it's great that you've divided everything up into categories. I look forward to a "duds" post if you do decide to do one.

  4. Bahahaha! How many times have you smelled someones breath after 10 shots?! I sure wouldn't be standing to be breathing on someone after that many! ;)
I feel like I'm too fickle to have very many Empties... I'm always box cling around. *gets awesome foot cream from drawer*

    1. LOL TRUST ME...I have some friends that drink like fish! ;) I'm the same way though- I Rarely have empties unless I really like a product. Although lately I've been trying to use stuff up even if I'm not in love with it so I can start moving through my hoards of stuff rather than just having a bunch of half-full tubes of things scattered everywhere LMAO
