So I've got something a little different for you guys today! I recently discovered a really fantastic company called Luxe Pineapple through Heather over at My Little Subscription Box Blog. I had never seen or heard of something like it before, so I knew I had to check it out!
What is Luxe Pineapple?
Luxe Pineapple is a company that sells discounted high end and name brand beauty products; From makeup to skincare, beauty tools and more! What they are most known for though, are their "Boxes of Joy."
Mystery Box of Joy
The Mystery Box of Joy is released one or two times per quarter. Luxe Pineapple takes products from their current inventory and boxes them up at an even bigger savings. The MSRP retail value is always listed along with the rock bottom LuxePineapple price. These items can be hair care, skin care or cosmetics. The boxes are NOT all the same, so you may get something different if you buy more than one!
Build-Your-Own Box of Joy
Once in a while, Luxe Pineapple allows their "Pineapple Lovelies" (customers) to choose their own products for their Box of Joy. Basically, you are able to shop their site and add whatever products you want to your cart. They provide a 50% off coupon code to use at checkout. I believe you need to put at least $30 worth of product into your cart, which would make the box cost $15. You can definitely add more than that if you want, though!
I was able to participate in the most recent build-your-own box event, which is what you'll be seeing in this review!
How does Luxe Pineapple get these high end products? Are they real? Discontinued? What's the deal? Here's what Luxe Pineapple has to say, straight from their site:
We work the same way that large retailers like TJ MAXX do. It's not a secret. Manufacturers liquidate overstocks, discontinueds, excess testers, or "old" packaging after a package update. We buy in big quantities and pass along the savings to you. We keep our overhead low so we're able to keep our prices low too. We DO NOT buy shelf pull items, we DO NOT buy product from China, we DO NOT buy fake products. After working in professional beauty for a decade, it took me a year prior to our launch to find and vet our vendors. We think we have the greatest products at the best prices and work hard daily to keep it this way.
When Does the Next Box of Joy Go On Sale?
In order to keep up with the Box Of Joy releases, you'll need to join the Luxe Pineapple Mailing List, which you can do on their website!
This cute post card came along with my box: "A Pineapple a Day Keeps the Worries Away." Even cuter- a little pineapple charm on a keychain! Love it!
My Build-Your-Own Box of Joy came tied with a pretty pink ribbon that I promptly tore off so I could dig into all the goodies inside! I really love the bright pink packaging!
Here's a first look at my box! Ahh so exciting!
Let's take a look at the products I chose for my box:
Korres: Cheek Butter in "Chara Crimson"
I really, really love my Korres lip butter, so I thought my first choice for this box would have to be a cheek butter! The photo on the site made this shade look more like a deep burgundy, but it is straight up crimson/red. You'd think that would look terrible on my pale skin, but it really blends out beautifully to light rosy tone. It does look like these cheek butters have been discontinued, which is a shame, because I'd love to get my hands on the other shades! The packaging is so beautiful and so is the color payoff!
Fresh: Sugar Lemon Bath and Shower Gel
This is a deluxe sample size shower gel from Fresh. The full size is 10oz, and is still available for sale through Sephora. It's gentle foaming body cleanser enriched with skin softening glycerin, shea butter, and comfrey extract. The brown sugar formula restricts the growth of bacteria, and soothes and rejuvenates dry skin. This stuff smells absolutely amazing! I wish I got more than one bottle! I may even buy a full size when this runs out.
Kleancolor: Kabuki Brush
This is a small, yet dense kabuki brush made from goat hair. I chose this for my box because I am in desperate need of a new blush brush, and I like to use small kabuki brushes for my blushes as I think they blend better. The one I'm currently using seems to be causing me breakouts, no matter how often I wash it, so I think it's time to let it go and bring in this one!
Clinique: All About Shadow Quad in "On Safari"
I have never tried Clinique eye shadows before, but these are really beautiful! I have green eyes, so I love to use greens and purples to really play them up. This quad makes a great finished look when worn together! I like to use the light green on the inner half of my lid, the darker green on the outer half, and then blend them together to get a gradated look. Then I use the brown in the crease and the cream shade on the brow bone as a highlight. It looks really lovely, and this is such a travel-friendly compact! It's nice and small, but also contains a mirror, which I love! It seems that Clinique still carries this quad, although it is now in new packaging.
Too Faced: Exotic Color Intense Eye Shadow in "Poison Orchid"
I cannot explain to you how obsessed I am with this shadow!! How gorgeous does this look in the pan? I could stare at it for hours, seriously. This is described on the Too Faced website as a 'Midnight Amethyst' color. It's interesting because when you apply it, it changes it's tone depending on the lighting and how you're looking at it. In the swatches below, you can see in dark lighting, this shade looks like a smokey grey color with purple shimmer. In the light however, this is a slam-dunk metallic purple shade that really packs some gorgeous shimmer! This shadow is still available for purchase on the Too Faced website.
(All of these swatches were done with my finger, without primer)
On the left: you can see swatches of all 4 shades from the clinique palette. They are super soft and nicely pigmented. If I can get this kind of color payoff with my finger and no primer, I'm very excited to see how these turn out with a good primer and shadow brush!
On the right: The first shot of the Too Faced "Poison Orchid." This is taken in natural light, in a shadow. See how dark and smokey grey it looks? Check out the swatch below!
Here's a shot of "Poison Orchid" again, only in natural bright light this time. Metallic perfection!
This particular Build-Your-Own Box of Joy cost $25 shipped. The retail value of all the products comes out to $80! Yes, some of these products have been discontinued or repackaged, but that's kind of the great thing about Luxe Pineapple. You're able to try and test out high end brands without breaking the bank. While I have had issues with subscription boxes putting discontinued items in their boxes before, I don't necessarily have an issue with discontinueds generally-speaking. My main issue has always been when companies are not upfront about it. What I love about Luxe Pineapple is that this is their business model, and they are very clear about where and how they get their products. Even so, the only product in my box that seems to be discontinued is the Korres cheek butter. Everything else is still available and current, however some packaging changes have been noted.
Overall, I think Luxe Pineapple is a fantastic value, and I'm super excited to see what boxes they come out with next!
If you want to know when the next Box of Joy will be released, You need to be on the Luxe Pineapple mailing list. You can sign up for that on their website HERE. That way, when they release a new box you'll be the first to know!
