Beauteque Classics Blogger Series: Oh Honey! Beauty Bag with Harlot Beauty Review and Giveaway!

IMPORTANT EDIT:
I cannot believe it, but the Oh Honey! Bag has sold out..in about 20 minutes time! PLEASE don't fret if you wanted to purchase one and were not able to get one in time: Beauteque is currently offering a pre-order for this bag. You will purchase it now, however there is an approximately 4 week wait time before you will receive the bag!

OK Guys...I have been waiting for this day to come for months now and it's finally here! Months ago, Beauteque contacted me and asked if I would like to curate my very own beauty bag, and honestly how could I say no to an opportunity like that? It has been a big dream of mine to be able to do something like this, and today is the day that I can finally reveal the bag to you!
The process behind curating this bag wasn't as "wild and free" as I would have liked it to be, of course. If I had my choice, I would have curated a bag of my favorite products and made it $15 with free shipping worldwide. Of course, that's not how things actually work behind the scenes, so I had to remind myself that this was a collaboration with Beauteque, and not a free-for-all to fulfill all my personal whims!
Basically, Beauteque chose 3 bloggers to help them curate themed bags. We were given a list of themes that we could choose from. I chose Honey, because just a year ago it was an ingredient that was pretty foreign to me outside of eating it on some toast! Since Korean brands tend to have lots of honey-based skincare products, many of which I really love, I knew it would be a great theme for me to help curate!
The process was a mix between Beauteque suggesting products for the bag as well as me sending them my own thoughts, products and ideas. Many of the products in this bag were hand chosen by me, the name of the bag was chosen by me, and I had the final say in how the info card and promotional banners would look. It was a very long, and sometimes incredibly stressful process, but in the end it was a really rewarding experience!

First off, let's talk a bit about why Honey is such a great ingredient for your skin!
Honey is naturally antibacterial, so it is excellent for treating and preventing acne and breakouts. Honey is extremely moisturizing and soothing to the skin and is full of antioxidants that help slow down the aging process. It has also been deemed a natural form of sunscreen through The Skin Care Resource Center, as it protect the skin from sun damage and prevents premature wrinkling. It's also great for helping open up the pores to unclog them naturally! So basically- honey is a do-it-all master when it comes to skincare!

Oh Honey! Beauty Bag Details:
The Oh Honey! Beauty Bag costs $29 (shipping not included) and contains 7 Full Size Products. I wanted to go in a less-expensive direction and include as many products as I could, because it's important to me to keep the prices low, but the amount of products high! As someone who works a part time job and lives paycheck to paycheck, I know how hard it is to pay for our kbeauty addiction!

Product Choice!
There was a small issue regarding my bag that was brought to my attention just before the release, being that one of the products I chose was also going to be featured in the Beauteque Head-To-Toe Breakfast Bag. I wanted to make sure that anyone who purchased the Breakfast bag could have an alternative choice so they wouldn't get the same product twice (unless they wanted to!) So you will have a choice at checkout between the repeat product, or a brand new product that is sure to gross you out as well as intrigue the heck out of you! You'll see below!

GIVEAWAY!
Beauteque was kind enough to provide me with another bag for me to do a giveaway with, and I am opening it internationally! Scroll down to the bottom to see how to enter!
Oh hey- that's me! Seriously it's all kinds of cool seeing my own name on a beauty bag info card!
The info card will give you more details on each product!
So admittedly, The bag is less than appealing. A black velvet pouch. I had a choice between this and 2 other shades, but I thought the black could be the most easily re-useable one! Stash this away and put a fancy gift inside for a friend, or use it to lug around all your endless kbeauty stash when you go on vacay! These bags are huge, about twice the size of your typical makeup bag. Flowers are not included of course...I just have that undying need to decorate everything!

Missha: Wrapping Coat Spray Mask in "Honey"
This is one of the first things I asked for in the bag, because it's not something we all have hundreds of in our skincare stash! Upon first glance I thought, "oh geez, that could get messy spraying a mask on my face!" But really, this product is kind of a mixture between a sheet mask and a gel-like essence. The Manuka Honey formula will provide some serious moisture to your skin without overdoing it. My oily skin absolutely loves this mist! If you don't have the time to sit with a sheet mask on, this guy has got your covered. Simply spritz this on after using your toner, and let it absorb. That's it! I do find that the mist is a little on the "thick" side, so I actually like to spray this on my hand and then apply it to my face with my fingertips, but I have misted it on when I'm in a rush and haven't covered myself in a gelatinous honey mess, so I think you'll be good either way you choose to apply it!

Skinfood: Honey and Shea Butter Hand Cream
OK so I'll admit: I originally had the Skinfood Honey Melon Hand Cream in this bag until it hit me: There was no HONEY in that product, just honeydew melon. Yep. I'm such a dolt sometimes. So of course I contacted Beauteque and asked them to switch it out for this one. Even though this hand cream may have been my second choice, I am so stupidly obsessed with it! Many of my regular readers may know how much I love hand creams. I think it's so important to treat our hands with as much care as our face! I have a nightly routine of using a hand scrub followed up by a really moisturizing hand cream, and this one fits the bill perfectly. It's thick because of the shea butter, but it absorbs quickly and doesn't feel at all greasy on the hands. Plus it smells exactly like it should: honey, shea buttery goodness! This already has a permanent place on my nightstand!

Holika Holika: Ceramide+Honey Sheet Mask
Innisfree: It's a Real Squeeze Mask in "Manuka Honey"
Being a huge fan of sheet masks, I of course felt it was necessary to include some in my Honey bag! The Holika Holika is a pulp sheet mask that contains grapefruit, shea butter, honey, avocado and ceramide to provide nourishment and moisture to the skin. The Innisfree Manuka Honey Mask is made with a triple-layered sheet to give the mask long-lasting moisture so that the essence has ample time to absorb into your skin. It contains Manuka Honey, which is filled with nutritious ingredients for your skin, as well as something called "Jeju Green Complex" which consists of green tea, tangerine, cactus, camellia leaves and orchid to help soothe and moisturize the skin. I do want to mention that the masks you receive may vary from bag-to-bag!

Skinfood: Honey Lip Treatment
This was a product that was suggested to me by Beauteque as I wasn't able to get the little Skinfood Honey Pot lip balms like I originally wanted. (Shipping issues were quite abundant during the time I was stocking my bag-Chinese New Year is a pain!) I'm a big fan of Skinfood, so I figured I couldn't go wrong with this lip treatment! It is made with 50% pure, natural honey. While that is kind of fantastic, I will let you know right off the bat: This stuff tastes amazing, but it's sticky. This is like applying honey to your lip right out of the jar. It starts out gliding on quite smoothly, however once it hits your lips...sticky city. The first time I used this I thought, "Oh my God I can't believe how sticky this is!" It took me a moment to realize that this is a lip treatment, not a lip gloss. I am a HUGE proponent of sticky, gloopy overnight lip treatments. It's why I love the Pure Smile Snail lip Treatment so much! They are sticky and thicker than anything, but they work amazingly well. So I globbed this stuff on like no tomorrow and promised myself I wouldn't purse my lips together for fear they'd never come apart. I went to sleep. the next morning my lips looked gorgeous! Aw yeah! So while I really dislike the sticky-pure-honey-texture that this treatment has, it does what it sets out to do, and that is what is most important to me!

Holika Holika: Honey Sleeping Pack in "Canola"
I knew when I chose Honey as my bag theme that I wanted this sleeping pack to be included. Not only is it housed in an adorable glass honey pot, but I had tried samples a few times and absolutely loved the consistency and the results I received from it. The canola type threw me off at first. I was afraid it would smell like canola oil, however it smells like sweet honey and another fresh scent I really can't pinpoint. The canola flower produces an unfortunately named oil: rapeseed oil. Rapeseed contains vitamin A, which promotes cell division and protects skin cells against the harmful UV radiation effects. It also contains vitamin E, which protects the skin from the environmental damage. It can also reduce skin sensitivity and irritation.
This sleeping pack has such a lovely texture. When you first dip your finger into the jar, it looks a little stringy, but it applies so incredibly smoothly! You don't want to glob this on, but simply use a little at a time, gently smoothing it over your skin until your face and neck are covered. Since I started using this sleeping pack, I have been waking up to moisturized, radiant skin. No excess oil, no sticky morning residue, just a glowing complexion. Obsessed.

Skinfood: Soda Fizzer in "Honey Salt"
For those of you who purchased the Head-to-Toe Breakfast Bag, these might look a little familiar to you! As I mentioned at the beginning of this post, there was a bit of a mix-up and this product ended up in both bags. I wanted to make sure that people could have the option to opt out of this product if they wanted, so there's a second product below that you can get instead if you so prefer. However, these were just way too cute not to put in my bag! The Skinfood Bath Fizzers are so much fun. I rarely get to take baths, but when I finally find the time, I love dropping in a sweetly scented bath bomb to really make it a relaxing experience. These Honey Salt bombs have a very strong, sweet, floral scent that really fills your bathroom when dropped in the water. My fiance loves taking baths, so he's had a blast with these. Honestly, I find them to be more fun in terms of packaging and their purpose, but not everything has to be some crazy in-depth skincare miracle, right? Toss one of these into your bathtub, throw on a sheet mask and sink in!

Propolinse: Propolis and Tea Extract Cleansing Mouthwash
This option is for anyone who has everything in their stash and really wants to branch out and try something different! This Mouthwash was suggested to me by Beauteque as an alternative option to the Bath Fizzers, and I was so intrigued by it that I had to say yes! This is a Japanese product, and it's one of the best selling Propolis mouthwashes in Japan. It contains Propolis and Tea Leaf extract. This wash softens the dirt and grime hidden between the teeth and inside your mouth. It rinses and removes the dirt, therefore also removing odors and disinfecting the mouth. The Tea Extract absorbs and solidies  the residues inside the mouth, and the propolis extract is used to prevent tooth decay and freshen breath.

I was under the impression that small bottles would be provided, however when I received my bag, I saw that it was a box filled with 6 large foil packets. I wasn't super happy about that, however My fiance and I tried this product multiple times and had no issues getting it out of the packets and into our mouths.
When you pull the tab off the top of these packets, there is a small opening at the top rather than a large one. That made it quite easy just to pour the wash right into my mouth. I did a few tests on this product just to see if I could figure out the gimmick, if there was one!
1. Firstly, I poured a packet out to see what it looked like before being swished around in my mouth
2. Then, I had both my fiance and myself use the mouthwash.
3. After we both used it, I used it a second time to see if I would have the same results.
I know...I know it's so disgusting, but I HAD to show you! Before being swished, the mouthwash has a deep amber shade. The flavor is sort of menthol-sweet. It's not amazing, but not offensive at all. I swished the wash around for around 40 seconds before I spit and all those little brown gross things were suddenly floating in it! Ugh. I wondered if maybe this was some sort of an effect that would happen each time the mouthwash was used no matter how clean my mouth was, so I tried using it again immediately. The second time around there was barely any brown things floating in it. I'm not even going to attempt to figure out how this stuff works, but it's gross and awesome, so I'm totally on board with it!

All in all, This was such a fun process, although I have to admit that there were some incredibly stressful moments! Original product choices not panning out, items I had chosen being included in other Beauteque bags, and some last minute release date changes made this process a bumpy one, but I definitely wouldn't have changed it for the world. I'm so glad to be able to bring you a bag that I really think is fantastic, especially after spending some time with it and really digging into all the products!

  17. It's a nice bag but I think it's pretty expensive for the contents. This whole bag can be bought for under $30 from other stores. It's funny because if Memebox put out something like this people would complain, but Beauteque always seems to get a free pass.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Beauteque does not have brand partnerships and a Korean-based warehouse like Memebox does/did. They are a very small business from here in the US, so they don't get the deep discounts and promotional products from brands that Memebox had access to. Because of that, they pretty much pay US wholesale price for the products in their bags. I understand what you're saying completely, but you need to look at Beauteque as a US seller, which is what they are. Take a look at prettyandcute.com peachandlily.com and urbanoutfitters.com and see what they are charging for these products- it's a ridiculously large amount more than Beauteque charges as a US-based company. It's impossible for them to compete with Korean warehouse businesses who get things for pennies on the dollar because of their geographical location. Hope that makes sense!

    1. I think that's the most bizarre, intriguing thing in the bag! haha ;) Whether or not you pick this bag up, the mouthwash is definitely something you should try! I asked Beauteque to try and see if they could carry it in their shop since it's so hard to find elsewhere!

  45. OMG Rachel, I have been waiting for this bag to come out for sooo long, I can't believe I missed it on the first day! Thank god they made a waiting list! I can't hardly handle the wait but I know it will be worth it!
I made sure to order the sleeping mask in acerola honey instead of canola for my monthly BB bag of April so I won't have any repeat, and Last month I ordered the egg fizzer in green tea so the honey salt will be perfect for me!
I am very curious about this mouthwash and would like to try it as well...
Anyhow congratulations on your success Rachel!

    1. Omgosh you're not the only person who missed it! It sold out in under 30 minutes so most people barely had time to get on the site to order it! I'm so incredibly happy Beauteque decided to offer the preorder! It sucks to have to wait the 4 weeks, but at least everyone has a chance to grab one! There is nothing worse than when something sells out that you really wanted! haha ;)

I chose the sleeping pack in blueberry for the April BB Bag! I had no idea that they were going to be offering it in the April bag, but I'm happy there was a choice of flavors- It's genuinely one of my favorite sleeping packs, so I'm excited to have another one!

Enjoy the bag when it finally arrives, Tia! I'd love to know what you think of everything when it does. :) Thank you so much for all your love and support- it means so, so much to me! <3

  48. I'm torn between wanting to try the Spray mask because it's such a unique product and the lip treatment because my lips desperately need help. Honey is so amazing , great choice for curating a bag!
