Birchbox Man March 2015 Review and Unboxing

I think it's weird that I get just as excited as Jeff does when his Birchbox Man arrives. Since I get a zillion subscription boxes every month, I love to include him in the fun with a box just for him! We kind of make it a little event, where he slides open the box without peeking and pulls out the info card. Then he takes items out one at a time and I read the descriptions to him. It sounds lame, but it's a silly thing that we do each month that just makes it more fun for us to open together!

If you're unaware, Birchbox Man is a men's lifestyle and grooming subscription box that costs $20 per month. While the women's Birchbox is only $10 per month, the men's box tends to have more lifestyle products such as clothing, electronics, gadgets etc. There are many different varieties of box each month, and what you receive may be totally different from what you see here. The box contents are chosen based on your profile that is filled out when you subscribe, as well as your sample choice. Birchbox Man allows you to choose from a selection of lifestyle products each month so that you can be sure to love what you get in your box. Although if you'd rather have a surprise, you can also skip making a choice and leave it up to chance.

This month's theme was "Boldly Go" and while they usually include a little intro note to subscribers, this month there wasn't one. I kind of missed it though as I like reading about the theme and why they chose it etc, so I hope it comes back next month!

Bison Made: Double Wrap Bracelet
Each month, Birchbox Man allows their subscribers to choose their lifestyle product for that month's box. There are usually 3-4 choices, and this month Jeff chose this really beautiful leather wrap bracelet. This piece retails at $40, which is already double the cost of the box! the packaging is so nice. It comes neatly coiled in a little slide-out drawer box. It is a handcrafted bracelet made with Hermann Oak leather It comes pretty long so that you can fit it to your wrist and then cut it to your desired length. It looks really nice paired with Jeff's leather watch!

THANN: Aromatic Wood Rice Grain Soap Bar
While I'm not a huge fan of bar soaps, Jeff seriously cannot get enough of them! He has a really nice soap dish (from Birchbox!) and he's always got a different fancy soap in there- most of them being from Birchbox as well! This one is a rice bran soap that is infused with orange and tangerine oil and spiced with nutmeg and clove. It smells ridiculously good. Very masculine and fresh.

Davines: MOMO Shampoo
Davines is one of those brands I'm just a little bit tired of seeing in Birchboxes. I feel like they need to take a break or something, because they're not only in the men's boxes but the women's as well. I would have been less bummed about this sample if it also came with a conditioner. I don't really see the point in tossing in one without the other. Jeff didn't seemed bothered by this though, and he's already got this in the shower. It has a subtle fruity fresh scent without being too feminine. It's a moisturizing shampoo, which you really can't go wrong with, although Jeff prefers volumizing/thickening hair products.

Billy Jealousy: Headlock Molding Cream
Billy Jealousy is another brand that has popped up quite often in men's subscription boxes, although it's been awhile since I've seen anything from them in Birchbox Man. This is a high-hold matte molding paste that contains natural ingredients. These molding creams work really well in Jeff's hair to hold a style without looking like he hairsprayed it into place. This has a really nice cologne-like scent to it. I kind of wish they made a body spray or something with the same scent!
Overall Thoughts
I am used to seeing at least 5 items in Birchbox Man, so I couldn't help but be a little disappointed to see only 4 this month. It is a $20 per month subscription after all. Having said that, the Bison Made bracelet retails at $40 on it's own, so it does make sense why there was one less sample than usual. Overall, what matters most is what Jeff thinks of the box, and he was absolutely thrilled, especially with the bracelet. He will use and enjoy everything in this box. He loves getting new bars soaps, so it's always a successful box when they include one! For me, I would have liked to see the Davines conditioner included in this box as well. If it had, I think it would have been much more appealing for me overall.

    1. hahah I'm SO glad I convinced you! Jeff has tried a lot of subscriptions, but this is the only one we've kept for a long time. It's been 13 months now, I believe, and he's still not tired of it. I especially love that they allow the guys to choose their lifestyle product- it makes for a much more enjoyable box. The choices this month were super generous too- He had a hard time picking which one he wanted!!

    1. Hi Tia!
I wasn't sure on this at first, but Birchbox confirmed it for me- You do not get a sample choice for your first month that you are subscribed. They will send you a box with their choice of lifestyle item your first month, and every month following that, you will get a sample choice e-mail! My suggestion is to like Birchbox Man on Facebook and keep up with their sample choice videos and email reminders etc so you can plan ahead and know exactly what you're going to choose, so when the e-mail shows up you can grab your choice- they sell out super fast! The good news is, one time I forgot to do a sample choice and we ended up with a $50 cashmere winter beanie, which my fiance loves! :D
