PopSugar Must Have April 2015 Review and Unboxing

I've been waiting for my April PopSugar Must Have Box impatiently, because last month's was such a mega let down for me. There have been very few times in my years subscribed to PopSugar that I've been flat out bummed with the box. March was probably my all-time least favorite since I began subscribing and it admittedly left a bad taste in my mouth. I bought a 6 month subscription during their Black Friday sales, so I had this month and next before it ran out. I was hoping and praying this one would make up for the huge fail that was March. I have to say that this month was a vast improvement, but I'm not completely convinced, yet.
The Deets
PopSugar Must Have Box is a subscription that sends you full size "must have" items from all areas of interest: fitness, beauty, skincare, home decor, books- you name it! You never know what is going to show up in these boxes, and that's why they're always so much fun to recieve!
PopSugar costs $39.99 per month, however you can save more by buying a longer subscription, or if you gift yourself a box each month, you can use the frequent coupon codes they have available. You can use the code (REFER5) to save $5 off your first box, currently!

Each month, Lisa Sugar (PopSugar's Founder) will put all of the things that inspired the box on the info card.
This month was inspired by:
Spring Showers, Farmer's Markets, Outdoor Fun, Fresh Produce, Simplicity
PopSugar sometimes includes coupons and special deals that go along with the products in the box each month. As the special extra this month, they've included a $25 Mott50.com gift card. I did a quick glance at the site and there's definitely not much (if anything) that falls into that price range, so you'd have to use this toward a higher priced purchase. There doesn't seem to be anything I'm interested in on their site though, so I will probably pass this on to someone who will use it. It's not counted as one of the items in the box though, so I'm fine with them including it.

One Love Organics: Gardenia + Tea Antioxidant Body Serum ($39)
I really love getting things in subscriptions that I don't already have tons of, and I definitely don't have ANY body serums! I've been thinking about getting more skincare products for my body lately, since it's almost time for more revealing summer clothes. I have to stock up on body scrubs, moisturizers and that famous Sally Hansen Leg Spray that makes your legs look flawless- but back to this product specifically!
While this is called a serum, it would be best described as a body oil. It's infused with antioxidants and other skincare goodies to help moisturize and nourish the skin. Plus, body oils make your skin shine and improves the overall appearance of the skin. The scent is a light gardenia/floral/green which I like a lot, surprisingly. I'm not normally into heavy florals, but this just smells like Springtime. Perfection!

Produce Candles: Rhubarb Spring Candle ($20)
Well, this was a home run for me! I have a weird personal connection to Rhubarb from my childhood. I had a neighbor who I basically spent every single day with, and her grandmother lived in the house next door to hers. Her grandmother had tons of rhubarb growing in her garden, and whenever we went over to visit she would pluck a piece of each of us and let us dip it in sugar. Rhubarb only tastes good when it's dowsed in sugar! Every time I eat or smell it, I'm brought back to that time in my life. While this candle doesn't smell exactly like rhubarb, it's definitely similar, with a bit of a green floral thrown in. It's a great Spring candle and made with all-natural soy wax, which doesn't always burn as well as other candle waxes, but it is cleaner and better for you!

Potting Shed Creations: Garden-in-a-Bag Basil ($10)
So far, we got 2 great Spring-scented products for our bodies and our homes. Let's continue on with a perfect product to include in a Spring box: Grow-your-own herbs! This one is Basil, which is such a useful herb to have on-hand in the kitchen! My local farmer's market opens around this time each year, and I love going to pick up fresh herbs, so this is such a great addition to the box for me! I have tried to grow my own herbs before, and for some reason they always come out a bit stunted and stop growing at some point, so while I'm not 100% confident that I can make this Basil grow enough to actually use, it'll be fun trying! The best part is, you can grow it right in the bag! I have a few pots that I can choose from instead, but the bag definitely adds a cute rustic-feel to it!

Flip & Tumble: 24-7 Bag ($12)
There's nothing more useful at a farmer's market than a bag like this. Sometimes I have no idea how much I'm actually going to buy until I get there. Having a little fold-up bag that I can toss into my purse and take out whenever I need it is absolutely perfect. This is also a great bag to have if you're going on vacation, on a day trip or even shopping for the day. PopSugar sent a much cuter fold-up bag in a box last April, however it didn't fold up as small as this one, so I can use both for different things. I only have one small issue with it:
How ugly is this bag when it's unfolded? I mean, I understand it can't come out wrinkle-free or anything, but I can't see myself proudly walking around with this thing on my shoulder. Once I unfolded it and saw what it looked like and how wrinkly it was, I realized I probably will always choose my other fold-up bag over this one, so I'm going to give this one to my mom for when she goes to the farmer's market. It is a useful item to have, but since I feel like I have a better one, it's best to give it to someone who will get use out of it!

Dabney Lee: Dottie Umbrella ($20)
I swear, myself and all the girls on the makeuptalk forum have been asking for a stinkin' umbrella in our PopSugar boxes for ages now! April is the perfect month to include one (hello April showers!) and this design is just ridiculously cute! It definitely feels like a much more expensive umbrella to me- the handle is thick and very sturdy, and the umbrella itself feels really well-crafted. It's much larger than I thought it would be too:
I mean, my fiance and I could both fit under this easily! This is definitely the cutest umbrella I've ever owned, and it's one of those usually un-fun things that you sometimes need to buy, so I tend to use the same cheap-junk umbrella until it falls apart. I'm so happy to have this cute, chic one to keep in my car. Also- it comes with a sleeve so you don't get water all over the place if you have to carry it in to work with you etc. Very happy with this!
Overall Thoughts
PopSugar costs $39.95 a month, and the April box has a total value of $101. The value bumps up to $126 if you include the $25 gift card, which I don't since it's listed as an extra. While this box does has a lower value than many others I've received, I think it's perfectly curated for April. It really does say "Springtime" to me which is all I can ask for from PopSugar. The one thing that is glaring to me is that they usually include a snack of some sort in their boxes, which is missing here. It did feel a little lacking in that regard, but I am still very happy with the products I did receive. It made me gain a little bit of the confidence I lost with PopSugar after last month's disaster box. I recently read that the May box is already sold out for any new subscribers, so if you are interested in subscribing, you can be put on a waitlist for May's box, but you will most likely receive the June box. May's box will decide whether or not I continue my subscription or cancel since my 6 month sub will be over. We shall see!
If you're interested in signing up for a PopSugar subscription, you can do that HERE.

  2. I was very happy with this month's box! I loved the candle the most, and I was curious if it really smelled like rhubarb because I've never actually had the real thing. I figured it wasn't an exact match, but now I know that it's at least a little bit similar!

    1. I was really happy with it too- I think I'm still scarred from the craptastic March box that i'm not totally convinced they're back on track yet...I guess we'll see with the May box! It does have a similar scent to rhubarb- it's remniscent of it for sure but rhubarb on it's own is kind of like a grapefruit. It has a very, very sour, bitter taste. Like a non-sweet green apple. Once you add sugar to it though...oh man so good!

  3. I spose you never heard of it being bad luck to open an umbrella indoors then. :P I'm so superstitious.

I read that first thing as gardening tea. You know like...tea to spray in your mouth when you're gardening? Or something.
