What I'm Doing, Where I've Been, Where I'm Going...

It's pretty rare that I do a personal post like this, although sometimes I wonder if I should do them more often! I realize I am a smaller blog. I don't have some crazy idea that I have a huge following that is hanging on my every word, however I know there are some of you (mostly fellow blogger friends!) that regularly read my posts- and thank you for that! Seriously I still can't believe that there are people that actually care about my opinions on beauty products and subscription boxes! It warms my heart and makes me feel so incredibly lucky to have met so many wonderful people through doing this blog.

Now these types of posts normally conclude with a sad message or some sort of goodbye, but that is not the case here at all! I do want to bring up a few things to explain my absence and why I have been posting less as of late. Recently, I decided to get out of the rut I had been in for the past year and start switching things up. I started listening to new kinds of music, learning about new cultures and beginning to enjoy living minimally. I even decided to start learning a new language! On top of all those wonderful things, I've also decided to begin my plans to go back to school to get my Psychology degree that I have wanted since I was a teenager and never had the opportunity to get.

Where does my blog stand in all of this? It's one of my genuine passions, and it's not going anywhere. However, there was a point in time a few months back where I was churning out reviews one after another and it was exhausting. If I wasn't taking/editing photos I was testing products, staying up until 4am trying to finish a review on time, and basically ignoring any outside activities other than my job. I realized my blog stopped being fun and became a stress on my life, and that was never what I wanted it to be.

I feel like most bloggers come to this realization at some point, and many of them make similar posts to the one I'm making now because we all try so hard to keep up with everyone else and stay relevant. We don't want to lose our readership and we don't want to let them down. But I'll be the first to admit that running a blog and keeping a schedule while also keeping a social life is a very difficult thing to balance.

Having said all this, I want to let you all know I will still be updating this blog as I always have. I still love what I do, and love sharing my thoughts and feelings on products, helping others, and meeting like-minded people through this beautiful world of social networking. However, I am finally letting go of the stress of having to get blog posts done. I'm only reviewing things I'm genuinely interested in reviewing, and I'm only working with companies that I am passionate about and want to tell you about (Beauteque and Kloverbox are great examples.) I do have some great new subscriptions that rolled in this week that I'm excited to share with you all, as well as a giveaway coming at the end of the month! So Harlot Beauty will still be very active, but there will be 1-2 posts per week rather than 5-6!

I want my blog to be a part of my life, while not completely taking it over. I hope that this post makes sense, and I hope you will all stick around because I truly adore each and every person that takes time out of their day to read my posts.
Looking forward to the future!

So much love,

  1. Good for you! Although I miss my daily Harlot Beauty fix, I'm happy that you're experiencing life outside of the Interwebs. All of those things are amazing and can't wait to hear your big news!

    1. Thank you so much Shannon! <3 I'm sure once I get a schedule figured out I will be starting to post more often- but when I added so many new things into my life at once it was hard to get a hold of everything and fit it all in accordingly- I'm so bad at time management! haha :)

  2. Very smart to slow your roll! I always said the moment my blog became not fun I would walk away. I'm really glad you aren't gonna completely stop posting tho!!! :)

    1. I don't think I ever could!! I always want to share my thoughts and feelings on products that I get but I realized I was just getting TOO much and my life was physically bogged down by products and my time was bogged down by having to get blog posts done on time etc and I refuse to let my blog become a "chore" when I want it to be fun and enjoyable for me and for people reading it! :)

  3. Good luck with your studies! What you're saying makes a lot of sense - and as a fellow blogger, I understand how freaking time-consuming it can be. The people who just casually drop by via Google or whatever have no idea, lol. Anyway, I look forward to your future posts, even if they are fewer in number. :)

    1. Thank you Rebecca!! :) It definitely is time consuming. People have no idea- when I tell someone that I'm a beauty blogger and they say how easy it must be or how lucky I am to get so many products etc it's definitely not that at all- it's great to get new products to try etc, but sometimes I'm just so overwhelmed with stuff that I never get the chance to REALLY try it- I'm hoping by scaling back and focusing more attention on products and reviews that matter I can do my job better and have more fun doing it :)

    1. Thank you so much Thaty! I'm actually in the process of learning Korean! :) Since I'm in love with Korean skincare, k-dramas and k-pop, I felt like it would be the best language for me to learn! Plus I would really love to visit Korea and maybe stay for awhile and teach English while immersing myself in a new culture. :)

  5. Blogging is a crapton of work and it's supposed to be fun so when it's not fun, pulling back is a good thing. You need some time to relax, refresh and enjoy your summer and new studies. I know I'll just be even more appreciative of your posts when they pop up in my feed.
You're amazing and you work so hard and I've appreciated all the help and talks we've had :D You're the best!
