Memebox X MakeupByEvon HD Ready Matte Lipsticks Review and Coupon!

Memebox has been picking up on my radar a bit more often lately. It's strange because I used to review Memeboxes left and right on this blog, but when they made the move to the US, I felt the quality and value of the boxes went down while the prices went up. That's not really Memebox's fault as they didn't have access to Korean companies and partnerships etc any longer and now had to start charging US-based prices for products/boxes etc. Even with the price increase and my lack of interest in the curated boxes, something that has always been awesome in my opinion, is their makeup line.

I remember when the XO Memebox products first launched, and I was more than skeptical. I didn't think that they would surpass drugstore quality and I was concerned that they would be overpriced. Boy was I wrong! I have to say that I use Memebox eye shadows almost exclusively for the better part of 2015. The original Pony Palette is truly the most workable neutral palette I own. I use the matte side during the day, and the shimmery side in the evening. I have quite a few shadow palettes and I have loved every single one. I also bought the entire set of shadow duos as well as a variety of their lip products- all of the being incredibly high quality at a reasonable price. I can't say enough good things about their makeup line, truly, and that's saying something considering how hard I am to please!

I was recently sent some new products from the Memebox line, and they were curated by MakeupByEvon. I had actually never heard of her before, but she is gorgeous and seems to have lots of fans! Not only does her collection include 3 matte liquid lipsticks (which I'll be showing you today) but two contour palettes as well.
Memebox has a huge variety of value sets and boxes that include just the MakeupByEvon products, or value sets that also have skincare, makeup brushes, you name it! If you want to grab these lipsticks but also want some bonus goodies, definitely check out the value sets and HDReady boxes they have available!

PRICE
$10 Each (free shipping is included with purchase)
$20 for set of 3 (buy 2 get 1 Free)
The packaging is pretty standard, but what makes them interesting is the words on the tube are actually transparent, so you can see the color of the product inside the tube. That makes it much easier to grab the right shade when you're in a rush since these tubes all look identical!

Natural Light
From left to right the shades are: Daring Marsala, True Marsala and Shy Marsala.
It was smart to use the "Color of the Year" as inspiration for these lipsticks. I think these shades are wearable year round, which makes them super versatile.

When I first swatched these, I thought they looked more like pigmented lip glosses than a matte liquid lipstick, however testing them later I found that they definitely have a matte finish on the lips!
Here's a closer look at the applicator, which your standard doe foot.

Shy Marsala
Shy Marsala is the lightest shade of the trio, and is described as a "classic pinky nude beige" and the lighest shade on the "marsala color spectrum" This is a super wearable color, and I think it would work on almost anyone. This is the color you wear day-to-day, whether you're running errands or going to the mall. What is really great about this shade though, is that it also compliments a really dramatic smokey eye as well. It's virbant enough that it gets noticed, but understated to the extent that it helps a dramatic eye look really shine.

True Marsala
True Marsala is the middle shade in terms of depth, and is the closest to "actual" marsala. The shade is described as, "better than nude, a warm soft brown with a hint of marsala red undertone."
I wasn't so sure about this shade at first, as brown-based colors tend to make my teeth look yellow and make my skin look less vibrant. Interestingly enough, this one comes off looking a bit more like a muted red/dusty rose on my lip and I really love it! It's a step up from Shy Marsala in that it's still wearable for any time of the day, but brings a little bit of drama and attention to the lip.

Daring Marsala
This is the deepest shade in the group and my personal favorite. I really love berry/wine shades on my lips, and I think this one will be especially beautiful in the Fall. This shade is described as a, "sensual, bold and rich wine, also known as 'Pantone Marsala.' Which most likely means this is the color Pantone was referring to when they named it 'Color of the Year.' I find this one to be the most pigmented in terms of application- I don't need to dip into the tube more than once with this shade, and it smooths on really nicely!

Overall Thoughts
This "liquid lipsticks" start out as more of a pigmented lip gloss when they are applied to the lips. They do have a bit of a shine to them as well, so at first I was pretty confused by the "semi-matte" claims. However, once they dry they are matte. I wouldn't even say these are semi-matte as the site claims. It gives a really sophisticated look to the lips, which I like. I was a bit concerned that my lips would look wrinkly or feel incredibly dry like many matte lip products tend to do, but these did not feel that way at all. I would suggest only using these on non-chapped lips, and maybe applying a very thin layer of lip balm before using these.

Once these set on the lips, they don't feel drying at all, which was a surprise to me. Even after wearing them for hours they don't dry out my lips. The reason why I don't wear many matte lip products is because of the dry-feeling, so I'm really happy that these work as well as they do! If you are attracted to the idea of these being "semi-matte" though, I do want to mention that they do dry almost completely matte- I couldn't detect any sort of shine on my lips once the lipstick had set.

The pigmentation is really good for the price, although I did feel like I had to dip the applicator wand into the tube more than once with the lighter shades- I think it's more an issue with the packaging wiping off too much product from the doe foot applicator, though. I did find that these do apply a bit streaky if you don't put on enough, so I had to make sure I was super careful with the application so I didn't leave streaks behind.

Overall, I am really thrilled with the look of these lipsticks. My favorite thing about them is that I can get the matte finish without turning my lips into a wrinkly desert. I also love the color selection, as I think they're a nice mix of wearable, yet bold shades that would work on almost every skin tone!

If you want to try these out for yourself, you can purchase them on their own, as a set, or part of a value set on the Memebox website. Memebox is also offering automatic free shipping on all the MakeupByEvon products and value sets!

    1. Seriously I wish I could sent out samples of Memebox makeup to people to prove to them how fantastic it really is. I was so skeptical when it was first released that I didn't buy any of it, even the Pony Palette that everyone was raving about. When I finally gave in I couldn't believe the quality and how affordable it was compared to other brands out there. These lipsticks are definitely something I don't have millions of already in my collection- they're very unique and really well made! I agree the middle shade is a great "your lips but better" color! :D

  2. I really liked these, too. And I agree with your assessment that these are less semi-matte and more totally-matte. :D And I was also surprised that these didn't dry out my lips at all. Memebox has surprised me once again.
