PopSugar Must Have: July 2015 Review and Unboxing

If you are a regular reader of my blog, you might remember back in May my 6 month subscription to PopSugar Must Have Box ended and I decided to take a break. As you can see, my break lasted a whopping 1 month. It was actually lucky for me because I wasn't too fond of last month's box so I avoided it with sheer luck. Having said that, I saw a spoiler for the July box and even thought I definitely didn't need it, I wanted it. Oh how I wanted it. So I resubscribed. I'm weak when it comes to PopSugar. Overall, I think PopSugar gives the most value for my money, and they also include such a wide variety of brands and products that you truly never know what you're going to get. I love that one month I could get a candle or a bud vase and the next month I'll see a nice piece of jewelry or lip gloss. While not every box is a huge hit for me, Popsugar has the best track record with me in terms of my satisfaction.
The Deets
PopSugar Must Have Box is a subscription that sends you full size "must have" items from all areas of interest: fitness, beauty, skincare, home decor, books- you name it! You never know what is going to show up in these boxes, and that's why they're always so much fun to recieve!
PopSugar costs $39.99 per month, however you can save more by buying a longer subscription, or if you gift yourself a box each month, you can use the frequent coupon codes they have available. You can use the code (REFER5) to save $5 off your first box, currently!
Each month, Lisa Sugar (PopSugar's Founder) will put all of the things that inspired the box on the info card.
This month was inspired by:
Beach days, easy travel, summer heat, forth of july, stripes.
Henri Bendel: Signature Stripe Canvas Dopp Kit ($28)
Here we have the spoiler item that pulled me back into subscribing. Do I need another bag? Absolutely not. You couldn't possibly fathom how many makeup bags and pouches I have stashed all over the place- and that's even after I give tons of them away! But this bag is just way too cute for words. I love how it has wires inside the tubing behind the zipper so it sort of "pops" all the way open for easy access to what's inside. The fabrics used on this bag are also water resistant which makes it a great item to pack in your beach bag! I'm probably going to use this as my makeup bag that goes into my purse, though!

Supergoop!: Defense Refresh Setting Mist SPF 50 ($28)
Normally I let out a little groan when I see a Supergoop product in my subscription boxes. It's not that they aren't a good brand, but they seem to take over every subscription box on Earth during the Summer. I actually love me some good SPF products, but too much is just overkill. Interestingly enough, this isn't a typical SPF serum or lotion like I'm used to seeing from them, but a makeup setting spray! Uhm...awesome! Not only does it set makeup, but it protects your skin with SPF 50 (heck yes!) while also controlling oil and shine. I haven't tried this out myself, but I'm actually super excited to. Not only do I worship good setting sprays during the Summer, but if this controls the oil slicks that form on my face after an hour of being outside, then I'm going to be a very happy camper.

Yes To: Blueberries Cleansing Facial Wipes ($5.99)
I make no secret about my obsession with cleansing wipes. I am a lazy person at heart- so it's amazing that I have stuck to a 13+ step skincare routine for years now. But as I always say, there are times when I'm just way too lazy to double cleanse in the bathroom complete with the water splashing and the patting dry nonsense...I know I sound ridiculous. I just like to have the option of wiping off my makeup with a cleansing cloth and then using another one to actually cleanse my face. I usually stock up on my favorite Purederm wipes, but I'm always down for trying new ones. My only worry with these is that they'll have too high of a pH for me to use, as most seem to. I ran out of pH testing strips and I'm waiting on more to arrive so I'm not able to test these now, but I'm hoping they pass!

The Good Bean: Fruit & Nut Bar in "Chocolate Berry" ($1.99)
I love when PopSugar adds a snack in their boxes because their almost always something I've never tried before. I'm pretty sure I've seen these bars around, but I've never given them a shot. This one is nut-free and made with chickpeas, dark chocolate and berries. I ate this for breakfast today and it's actually pretty dang good. For a "bar" product. I say that because it's supposed to be healthy and energizing etc, so it obviously doesn't taste like a candy bar, but I enjoyed it enough where I would probably buy more flavors if I saw them in the store. I like bars that have a lot of protein in them to give me energy and keep me full, so I'm keeping my eye out for these!

PopDental: Portable Toothbrush ($19.99)
I saw some subscribers complaining about this, but I'm actually really excited to have this! I love getting useful things like this in subscription boxes, and I've really been focusing on my oral care more lately. It's not like my teeth are rotting out of my head, but I definitely don't take as good care of them as I should. I like electric toothbrushes, but this one is especially nice because it closes up for easy travel and looks pretty chic, I think!

Special Extra: Hallmark Signature Greeting Cards ($14.97)
This is listed as a special extra, but I honestly think they're pretty enough and pricey enough (about $5 per card-woah) to be considered a regular item in the box. I have a nice collection of stationary and cards because I don't like buying them at the store unless I absolutely have to. I think subscribers got a random selection of cards- mine included a birthday card as well as a wedding/bridal card. I didn't check what the third one was, but these cards are seriously beautiful. It's hard to tell from the photo, but the bridal photo has an actual fabric dress on it, and the birthday card is 3D. Really lovely quality and great additions to my stationary collection!

Sorial: Card Case and Coupon ($28)
We received a Sorial "wallet" in a past box, which was really more of a clutch/pouch on a chain. It's actually really nice, so I was happy to see them partnering with this brand again. Although I'll admit I have no idea what to do with a card case. I don't go anywhere without my purse. Having said that, I suppose if I'm walking around somewhere and just want to take my credit card and a little cash with me I can stick this in my pocket. I think I'd just be afraid of it falling out or getting lost somehow!
Inside the card case was a $25 coupon for sorial.com. The good thing is that there is not minimum purchase so it's almost like a $25 gift card. Here's the thing that annoys me. I knew this was coming in the box, so I went ahead and checked out their website ahead of time. I bookmarked a cute wristlet that was $25 so I could snatch it up once the coupon came, and it seems Sorial removed it from the website a day later. Not cool, man. If they didn't want people to get the wristlets with the coupon, they simply could have made it a $25 off $50 or more coupon instead. I don't like this brand enough to spend the prices they're asking for their stuff, even with a $25 coupon, so I won't be using this...right now anyway. Maybe I'll need a gift for a friend or something, who knows?
Overall Thoughts
PopSugar Must Have costs $40 per month, and the July box has a total value of $112. That total value doesn't include the Hallmark cards since they were listed as an extra, but including them bumps the value up to over $125, and if you also include the Sorial coupon, you've got a $150 here. I think that's awesome and unheard of in any other subscription box at this price.
I really like the overall curation of this months box. There's nothing here that I don't like. My only teeny complaint would be that we received two bag/accessory-type things with the card case and dopp kit, and 2 cosmetic/beauty items with the setting mist and face wipes. I would have loved to see a fruity scented candle or a piece of jewelry instead for a bit more variation. Overall though, I really think I'm going to enjoy everything in this months box and get use out of them, which I cannot say for most other subscriptions out there. I definitely don't regret resubscribing!

  1. I loved every single thing about this box (except the bar)! That is so weird about Sorial. I went to their site and they have like seven things! What kind of brand is this!?

    1. They have sections for other things like accessories and things like that- so my only guess is that they removed anything that was $25 or less so we wouldn't be able to use the coupon on them. That's what kind of irritates me. I understand their standpoint but as I said, they could have easily made the coupon $25 off of a $50 or more purchase etc, but they didn't. I know I checked their site back when we got the wallet in a previous box and they had WAY more items available. I feel like what is on the site now are possibly things that weren't selling well and they're hoping to get rid of some if people use the coupons on them...which I find relatively shady, personally. I like the products I've gotten from them but not enough to spend the kind of money they charge!

  2. Sorial updated their shop listings and there's more items including that cheap wallet-clutch. Unfortunately it's now $28... And I didn't try to check out, but I heard people complain that shipping is $12.
