The 3b Box: Beauty Beyond Borders August 2015 Review and Unboxing

It's the middle of the month, which means all of my subscription boxes are really starting to roll in. I got FOUR packages today alone, which is a lot considering I don't subscribe to nearly as many boxes as other bloggers! One of those boxes was the August 3b Box! I was a little worried because the box was pretty squished. Since it was only sealed by a single piece of packing tape, the sides were almost wide open. It's good that they put the products into a small bag, but they should consider taping it up a bit more as well as some packing material in the future- I lucked out this time though and nothing was missing or damaged!

3b is the perfect subscription for literally anyone that is into kbeauty. Why? Because if you're a newbie, it will help familiarize you with brands and products without overwhelming you or your wallet. If you've got storage bins full of korean skincare, you can still benefit from a subscription like 3B because it allows you to try products without having to buy them at full price. Sometimes I've made large purchases from Korean beauty sites and received an item after a month of waiting for it to show up, only to realize I don't like it that much. Having kbeauty-focused subscriptions allows me to try things I haven't gotten around to using yet- plus it keeps my stash stocked up!
What is 3B?
3b (stands for Beauty Beyond Borders) is a subscription service that I have coined the KBeauty Birchbox. While you receive mostly Korean products, they have also included Japanese brands in the past as well. Normally the boxes contain deluxe samples, however they have been known to also include full sizes!

The Cost
Only $12 a month! (that includes shipping!)
(3b currently only ships to the US)

What's In the Box?
Each box contains a collection of  4-5 deluxe samples that are new or popular in Asia but hard to get your hands on. The products will change each month, and you’ll get to try new skincare, haircare, nail care, and cosmetic products. Sample products range from go-to brands such as Lioele, Etude House and Skinfood to high-end premium brands like SK-II, K, and Sulwhasoo.

Where Do I Sign Up?
You can learn more about 3B, and sign up for their monthly subscription HERE. 3B is quite popular so there is occasionally a waitlist to subscribe, so if you're interested- the sooner you sign up the better!
While this is called the 3B box, and it does arrive in one, your products are housed each month in a cute organza bag. I really prefer these bags to getting full-on makeup bags (like ipsy for example) because these are easily stored away to be used again, are lighter to ship and take up less space. I can only use so many makeup bags, so I'm never a fan of receiving them each month through various subscriptions.
Missha: Pure Source Cell Sheet Mask in "Pomegranate"
Sheet masks are almost a given in most kbeauty subscriptions nowadays. Not only are they relatively inexpensive to include, but they are such an essential part of the Korean beauty skincare routine. Granted not everyone uses them, but they are a really great way to get quick relief from dry, dull, oily, or irritated skin. Most of them only really give temporary results, but they're a great thing to have a variety of on hand for when disaster strikes on your face! It seems that subscribers all got the same Missha Source Cell mask however there were a variety of types. I received the Pomegranate one, which is nice because I've heard it's great for combating acne as well as naturally soothing and moisturizing the skin.

Secret Key: Starting Treatment Eye Cream
Woah! I love that 3b is only $12 a month yet they send full size products like this! Secret Key is an affordable brand that tends to underhandedly "dupe" more expensive products- and they work just as well from what I have tried! I'm a big fan of Secret Key in general, so I was happy to get this as I haven't tried it before. I'm a little confused by the name, because when I see "starting treatment" on a package, it usually means it goes on early in the skincare routine. After doing research on this eye cream, there's nothing to indicate that this would go on at the start of a skincare routine so I'm assuming it's just part of a larger line of products that share the same name? Who knows. Either way, this is actually a really great eye cream in terms of ingredients and uses! Not only does it help maintain elasticity, it smooths wrinkles, nourishes the skin and increases radiance around the eye area. It contains shea butter, galactomyces yeast, macadamia seed oil, sweet almond oil and witch hazel extract. What makes this product even better is that it doesn't contain any parabens mineral oils or synthetic coloring.

RiRe: Luxe Long & Curl Mascara
So the info card states we were supposed to receive the RiRe lash essence which is something pretty cool that I haven't heard much about in terms of beauty products- however we received a mascara instead. While I think most of us can agree we would have preferred the lash essences, this is still a full sized mascara. Since we already received a full size item, I think that's pretty great! I also received an e-mail from 3b about an hour ago that let their subscribers know that they flubbed up and sent the mascara by mistake, but to look forward to the lash essence in a future box!
As for this mascara, it's a little...different? I mean- look at that brush! It's a loop-shape and it's incredibly small. I'm not sure if this will make applying it easier or more difficult, but I'm certainly excited to find out! This is the 3rd mascara I've received this month though, so I'm hoping I don't find anymore in the rest of my subscription boxes this month!

Tonymoly: Delight Tony Tint
Way, wayyy back in the day, I received this exactly sample in the second Memebox ever released. Even back then, it wasn't my first time using it. That is how popular this tint is. Most kbeauty lovers already own this (or own more than one!) or have at least tried it. However, for anyone that is new to the world of kbeauty, it's a great staple that everyone should try! Most people would consider this tint the best in it's price range in terms of staying power and ease of application. I happen to be a big fan of this, however the tube I already have looks like it'll never run out- so I can't imagine ever needing this little one. Perhaps I'll add it to a future giveaway! (hint hint!)
Overall Thoughts
I wasn't in love with last months 3b box, but I think this one is so much better! I love that they included 2 full sized products, and 3 out of the 4 items are multiple-use. I'm really excited to try out the Secret key eye cream because it looks fantastic and I'm weirdly obsessed with eye-area skincare. Even though I would have preferred the essence, I'm still very interested in the RiRe mascara- I've had mixed results using this brands makeup, so it really could go either way.
As I always say, I think this is a great subscription. At only $12, it's such an affordable and non-overwhelming way for someone to introduce themselves to kbeauty, but it's also a great subscription for someone like me. While I already have a pretty hefty collection of skincare products, I'm always happy to play around with more! And since 3b only sends 4-5 products each month, I never feel overwhelmed with stuff!

There is currently a wait list to subscribe to 3B, so if you're interested I would sign up as soon as possible. You can get on the wait list here. Right now they're only shipping to the US, but they have been openly asking their customers where we would like them to ship to next. So if you live outside the US, make sure you get in touch with them and tell them you want them to ship to your country!
If you'd like to learn more about 3B, you can do so HERE.
