Jane Iredale "Ready to Wear" Fall 2015 Collection Review: Pure Pressed Shadows, Pure Lash Mascara and Smooth Affair Primer

It's been a long time since I've featured Jane Iredale on my blog, but seeing as how they're one of my favorite cosmetics companies, I thought it was high time I did another review! I reviewed the 2014 Fall Collection, and now I have a review with a sampling of what you'll find in the Jane Iredale Fall Collection for 2015!

First things first: Why Do I like Jane Iredale So Much?
1. Because the company started in my home state! (MA Pride!)
2. Because their products are unique!

What exactly makes them stand out?
Their products are non comedogenic, meaning your skin will be able to breathe and behave normally when wearing Jane Iredale products. No clogged pores for you!
Their products are safety, allergy, clinically, and dermatologist tested.
They make an effort to use only anti-irritant ingredients and natural preservatives. No parabens or phenoxyethanol!
Jane Iredale is also cruelty free!
I think that Jane Iredale products are always "staples" in a collection. You could buy anything and most women could wear it, pull it off, and use it regularly in their makeup routine. While I'm a super adventurous type when it comes to makeup, my daily routine requires me to have fast-working, multi-tasking products that look natural. Not only does Jane Iredale cater to me, but to people like my mom, who don't really like to use too much makeup, but still want to look their best. What they also do really well is gorgeous packaging. Seriously some of the prettiest most chic shadow palettes I own are from Jane Iredale!

While I don't have everything here that is going to be in the Fall Collection, I do have most of it! There are also 7 new "PlayOn Lip Crayons" being released that range from beautiful nude pinks all the way to deep burgundy reds! I might splurge on a few of those later, though- so keep an eye out! For now, lets take a look at the rest of the Fall releases!
The playful Fall collection from Jane Iredale is filled with rich colors that complement any wardrobe and mood for the season. Introducing the PlayOn LipCrayon in seven irresistible shades and an array of eye shadows in bold, yet wearable colors and finishes. A new mascara wand for our PureLash Lengthening Mascara makes creating beautiful top and bottom lashes a snap! Last, but certainly not least, the new Smooth Affair Facial Primer and Brightener for Oily Skin will keep skin shine-free all day.

If you have combo/oily skin like me, you know the struggle to keep your makeup in place no matter what season it is. While it's particularly difficult to maintain my makeup during the Summer, it's still hard to keep it from wearing away throughout the day during the Fall. I rarely find primers that are made specifically for those of us with oily skin- so I cannot tell you how thrilled I was that Jane Iredale released this product! I have tried the original (and award-winning btw!) Smooth Affair Primer and it's fantastic, so I'm interested to see how the oily-skin formulation differs from the original on my face.

About the Smooth Affair Primer
-Advanced Mineral Skincare nourishes the skin.
- Revolutionary "PoreAway" technology helps to noticeably reduce the appearance of pores.
-Visibly reduces shine to create the idea makeup canvas.
-Fights blemishes and clogged pores
-Creates a smoothe, matte finish for an even skin tone
-Color-adjusts to your skin

Seriously is that list not everything you could ever want in a primer?

Ingredients:
Aqua/Water/Eau, Cyclopentasiloxane, Glycerin, Dimethicone/PEG-10/15 Crosspolymer, Coconut Alkanes (and) Polysilicone 11, Coco-Caprylate/Caprate, Stearoxymethicone/Dimethicone Copolymer, Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea) Leaf Extract, Raphanus Sativus (Radish) Root Extract, Pistacia Lentiscus (Mastic) Gum, Pyrus Malus (Apple) Fruit Extract, Pectin, Chlorella Vulgaris/Lupinus Albus Protein Ferment, Xanthan Gum, Citrus Paradisi (Grapefruit) Fruit Extract, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Peel Extract, Rubus Fruticosus (Blackberry) Fruit Extract, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Sodium Chloride, Lonicera Caprifolium (Honeysuckle) Flower Extract (and) Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Lecithin, Alcohol Denat., Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77489, CI 77491), Mica, Sucrose, Ethylcellulose, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Citric Acid
Primer is housed in a squeeze-type tube
This primer has a similar feel to the popular clear gel-like primers (like Smashbox Photo Finish, for example) but is slightly more thin in terms of consistency. A little goes a very long way- you would only need slightly more than what you see in the swatch to evenly cover your entire face. With some primers I've used in the past, they tend to feel like they're leaving sort of a film or layer that sits on top of my skin, which I'm not really a fan of. But I also dislike primers that blend in like a lotion and you can barely tell that they're doing anything. What makes this particular primer so amazing is that it manages to be right down the middle. It's thin enough that it smooths evenly across my skin, and while I feel it there, it's not heavy or uncomfortable to wear.

Pore Coverage
In terms of pore coverage, this does a standard-to-above average job. It noticeably covers my pores, although after applying my makeup and setting powder, I can of course, still see them. You're not going to make your pores completely disappear using this, but you will certainly diminish them and make the much less noticeable to others.

Finish/ Oil Control
This product definitely gives a flawlessly matte finish to the skin. I love that while it keeps shine at bay, it doesn't make my skin look dull like other matte face products. Since it's also a brightener, it does this perfect combination of both mattifying, yet also making your skin look naturally brighter and more healthy.
Since the Summer has been relatively mild here in Massachusetts this year, I haven't been able to try this primer out on a really hot, sweaty day. I have however, been using this primer daily for 2 weeks and have yet to have it fail me in terms of oil control. This is where this primer shines the most. I haven't found a primer yet that keeps my skin shine-free for at least 8-10 hours, and this one actually comes through for me! Since my oily skin can sometimes break down my foundation/BB creams and make me look blotchy and all-around gross, this primer keeps everything in place really nicely. Granted I also use a touch of oil control powder to set my makeup, but the powder along with this primer seems to be a dream team!

Overall Thoughts
I'll get right to the point: This stuff rocks. It works amazingly well for me. Not only does it feel good on my skin, but it minimizes the appearance of my pores and keeps me as matte as I can possibly get for most of the day. The price tag is a little nuts for me to spend on a single product, but the fact that it works so well makes me feel better about investing in this again in the future!
One of the few things in the Jane Iredale line I've been more neutral on is their mascaras. While they're not bad formulas by any means, I have usually found them to be more for people who prefer the "natural look" to their lashes. I'm one of those "the bigger the better" people with my lashes. I want volume. I want length and separation and curl. I want it all, basically. I vaguely remember trying out the original PureLash Mascara and coming to a similar conclusion: it was nice. It separated my lashes, it was clump-free and it applied smoothly, but it didn't give me the volume or length that I really wanted. Since then, it seems Jane Iredale has changed the wand and promises that the wand alone will change everything. I'm always skeptical of mascara wands in general because I feel like many of them are just gimmicks, so I was genuinely interested in giving this one a shot and seeing how different it was from the original.

As always, Jane Iredale's gold metal-like packaging looks super chic and fancy! The brush is definitely different from what I remember- it's actually thinner, short bristles on one side and longer thicker bristles on the other. These are rubber/plastic bristles and seem to hold a good amount of product. Not too much, not too little.
Here's a better shot of the new brush!
I was interested to see if this brush alone was enough to change my middle-of-the-road opinion of this mascara, so I decided to apply this before I put any of my makeup on. I have blonde eyelashes and dirty blonde brows, so I depend on makeup to really make them standout. If my mascara is subpar, my lashes look terrible.

Forgive my dark circles and giant pores in the following pictures- I'm not wearing any makeup at all other than the PureLash Mascara
Here's what my eye looks like completely makeup free. Yay for puffy, hooded lids. Thanks mom!

And here is my eye with nothing else but PureLash Mascara. I did two quick coats here- I would even dare say it's 1 1/2 coats since I just swept it on quickly like I normally would on a busy day. All I have to say is: wow. Not only does this brush make all the difference in the world to a mascara formula I used to feel mediocre about, but it shows some very impressive results! I could have continued to layer on another coat if I wanted to, but I wanted to give an accurate representation of what we're dealing with here. The formula slides on very easily and doesn't clump much if at all. It leaves my lashes feeling flexible and healthy, not dry and brittle. Formula-wise, it's leans toward the "wet" side, but it's still thick enough where it's not going to get all over the place. I did get a bit on my lash line while applying, but that can easily be covered up with an eyeliner.
Here's a side-by-side comparison. I am truly and genuinely super impressed with this mascara and they way it looks. It also did a fantastic job curling my lashes, which I don't even think is something it even lists as a benefit. The new brush makes it really easy to get really close to the lash line too- so the "thickness" illusion is really boosted!
After wearing this mascara for the entire day, I didn't notice any smudging of flaking. It's pretty common for mascaras to smudge onto my upper lid due to the shape of my eye, but this one really stayed put well.

Overall Thoughts
I hate saying that this might be one of my new favorite mascaras because it costs quite a bit more than my favorite drugstore mascaras, but honestly I love this. Not only does it have benefits to your lashes and their health, but it's a fiber mascara that doesn't overdue the fibers. You can barely tell they're in the formula to begin with, but they certainly make a difference! Could not be happier with this, and I highly recommend it! Especially for those of you with sensitive eye areas!

Jane Iredale features over 30 different shadow singles, and they come in matte or shimmer finishes. The four I'm showing you today are the new additions to the line, and each one of them comes in all-new packaging. Most of the shadow singles have a see-through heavy plastic lid. These ones on the other hand, are super beautiful- you'll see below how fancy these are! I really love Jane Iredale shadows because the formula is just excellent. The shades, while all pigmented, can sometimes be really subtle and other times be super bold and colorful. This makes them accessible to a wide range of people who may have different preferences on the way they like to wear eye shadow. The formula is always super soft and buttery, and they're one of the few shadows I can swatch without primer and without a brush and still get great color payoff.

About the PurePressed Eye Shadow Singles
-All Four Shades are brand new to the line
-Shadows are mineral based and designed to enhance the color and shape of the eye
-Can be used wet or dry
-Gentle and safe for sensitive eyes
-Highly pigmented, crease-resistant and long-lasting
-Are safe to use on cheeks and lips as well, if desired.

Ingredients
Mica, Boron Nitride, Dimethicone, Pinus Strobus (Pine) Bark Extract, Punica Granatum (Pomegranate) Extract

May Contain:
Titanium Dioxide (Ci 77891), Iron Oxides (Ci 77489, Ci 77491, Ci 77492, Ci 77499), Carmine (Ci 75470), Manganese Violet (Ci 77742), Ultramarines (Ci 77007), Chromium Oxide Greens (Ci 77288), Red 30 Lake (Ci 73360)

Let's take a look at that beautiful packaging I was just telling you about!
This is what each shadow single looks like when it's closed. They are housed in a rose-gold compact that has a push-button clasp to ensure they stay closed, even during travel.
When you open up the compact, you see a dream come true: a mini mirror in each shadow single! I rarely (if ever) see this bonus, and I am all about travel mirrors. Especially if you're on the go or want to reapply throughout the day, mini mirrors like this become invaluable! In terms of size, the shadows are the same size as a MAC or Coastal Scents shadow pan.

Let's take a look at each shade close up and then I'll show you some swatchin' goodness! There are 2 new matte shades, and 2 new shimmer shades to the collection:

Steamy
Steamy  is a "shimmery pink copper" which is actually way more unique than it looks in the pan. It sort of looks like a red-toned brown in the pan, however the swatch leans much closer to the "pink copper" side of things, even with a hint of a rosey orange tone to it. It also contains gold shimmer that isn't too overwhelming, but just enough to glam up the eye a bit without looking like a disco ball!

Forest
Forest is described as a "deep matte green" which is spot on. This also looks a bit deceiving in the pan. It comes off more like a teal, but when swatched it's so much closer to a forest green. I call shadows like this a "matte satin" because while it is definitely matte, you can see it has the slightest hint of a pearlized look to it, which keeps matte shadows from looking chalky on the lid.

Mermaid
It definitely seems like Jane Iredale is focusing on "jewel tones for Fall" with these shades, right? Mermaid is an absolutely beautiful shimmery sea foam green. The name is absolutely perfect for this shade. It has a blue/green hue to it with a slight tinge of purple, which is very subtle, but super gorgeous. The swatch does come off a bit more mint green than anything else, but when the light catches it, you can definitely get a hint of the aqua/purple colored shimmer.

Iris
Iris was actually pretty difficult to photograph correctly. This is a matte cool violet shade, however since its cool, it tended to lean more blue or indigo than violet. This shade is a very vibrant matte purple. If you want a gorgeous pop of color for Autumn, this would be a fantastic shade to add to your shadow wardrobe. It's definitely unique considering most of the matte purple shades I've owned in the past have fallen flat in terms of color payoff. Not so with this one!

Swatches
Left to right: Mermaid, Steamy, Iris, Forest
I am not at all joking when I say these babies are pigmented. The only one I can say is a bit lighter than the others is "Mermaid" because it's really supposed to be more of a pigmented shimmer than anything. As I mentioned earlier, I always use a primer and a shadow brush when I do swatches, but I wanted to prove a point here and show you what these can really do. The swatches you see above were done with my pointer finger. I simply swirled my finger in the pans and wiped it down my skin once. These were also done without an eye primer. As pigmented as these are, you could still build these up to an even more intense color pay off, or blend them out for a more sheer wash of color.
As for wearability, I used these shadows along with a few other basics (highlight shade for example) from other palettes/brands and I think they perform as well as my high-end shadows like Urban Decay and MAC. With an eye primer they lasted the entire day and then some. I don't know how long these would last without primer because I never go without one, an you shouldn't either if you want your shadow to be on point all day!

Overall Thoughts
I absolutely love the shade choices for these 4 shadows. I feel that they look so beautiful together and make me crave more jewel-tone for my Fall wardrobe! I like that there's an equal representation of both matte and shimmer shades here as well. My favorite thing though, is how beautifully these perform. I usually have an aversion to shadow singles, but that is mostly because I have so many palettes that singles seem more burdensome to use. Having said that, I have gone out of my way to include these in my eye looks because they're so beautiful and so much fun to play with! I highly recommend considering these to add into your Fall makeup looks!
Yet again, Jane Iredale has managed to impress me- and actually more so with this collection than any of the prior releases I've tried. I love that they didn't play it safe when it came to a Fall collection like they did last year. Instead of releasing browns/oranges/neutrals etc, they went bold with jewel tones, and I think it really pays off!
I am also pleasantly surprised by how much I love the primer and mascara- more so the mascara since I've tried it in the past with a different brush and was lukewarm about it. I don't often find myself being impressed by and entire collection of products, but Jane Iredale seems to prove me wrong regularly. They really are a world class makeup brand- not only because of their ingredients and formulations, but because of how well their products work!

    1. Isn't it awesome? I've had some bad luck with mascaras lately, too! I have an embarassing hoard of tubes because it takes me so long to go through one- I decided to start ignoring my favorite ones for awhile and grabbing at some of the random mascaras that I've gotten from subscription boxes etc, and most of them have gone in the trash. I'm just hoping I get through them fast enough so I can go back to using this one! I was SO impressed with it!
