Memebox: IM LIPSTICK Review and Swatches!

I've always been a huge fan of the Memebox line of cosmetics. While I was skeptical when they were first released, their products have proven time and time again to be of high quality at an affordable price. I use my original Pony Palette almost every single day, and the shadows are better quality than a good portion of my high-end shadows! Memebox released a small run of "I'm Lipstick" shades in the early days of their XO Memebox line, and while I did enjoy their pigmentation, I found that they were a bit on the dry side and the shade selection was a bit lacking.

The good news is, Memebox has released the new and improved "I'm Lipstick" line, complete with 30 shades- so you're sure to find one that is perfect for you!

From Memebox:
Experience a full blast of color with the new I’m Lipstick series by Memebox. Upgraded with better formulation and a much advanced color technology, I’m Lipstick delivers full color payoff in just one swipe. It possesses a lip-hugging property which allows the color to fully adhere onto the lips for a long-lasting wear.

"Phase Inversion Emollient" delivers the most vivid color payoff
Crease-free, lip-hugging formula with Argan Oil, Rosehip Oil, and Manuka Honey extract
Here's a peek at all the shades available!
Memebox was awesome enough to send me a random selection of these lipsticks to share with you guys! I' a little bit bummed out that they're all so similar though- I would have loved to give you a better idea of how the darker shades swatched as well! Having said that, I got a good idea of the pigmentation and wear time of these new lippies, so let's dig in!

Where to Buy:

How to use:
Just-bitten gradient effect: Apply to the inner corners and blend outwards.
Full-coverage: Line your cupid's bow in a criss-cross pattern, as well as the outer corners and the bottom of the lips. Connect the dots and fill in.

These lipsticks each come in a matte cardboard box with a colored label on the top that matches the shade of lipstick. The tube is matte and square-shaped. "I'm Lip Stick" is printed on the cap. Each lipstick also has the "M" Memebox logo pressed into it, which I thought was a really pretty touch! These tubes seem very well made, the lipstick itself is held in there nicely and didn't wiggle around at all when I applied the product.

(these swatches were done with no primer and no lip pencil and photos were taken in natural, indoor lighting. This method was chosen as to give you the most accurate swatch possible. The appearance of these shades will vary from person to person depending on natural lip color, lighting and skin tone)

Before I talk about this shade, I do want to mention that Memebox does not provide the shade names on their website, which I think is a bit odd. They're only labeled by number, however there are names on the packages of these lipsticks, so I'm not sure why they're not also on the site. Regardless, This shade is called "Notting Hill." Upon first glance, it sort of looks like a pink-based nude, but on my lips it has a very obvious orange/peach undertone. Memebox's swatches look very different from mine, and it seems to look more like a genuine nude on their site. I can't say I liked the undertones of this nude as it didn't work with my skin tone, however the formula is so outstanding. This lipstick glides on like a dream, feels creamy and butter, but thick enough to adhere to your lips. It doesn't feel like it's going to wear off quickly, but it's super comfortable and moisturizing. It does leave a bit of a stain once it wears off a bit as well.

If you've ever wanted the perfect Barbie Pink shade, "Shiny Pink" is the one for you! The name is super appropriate because this lipstick has a very shiny finish. The one downside to that though, is that out of the 3, it was the only one that applied a bit streaky. You can see the streaks on my upper lip from where I pursed my lips together before taking the photo. It's not a huge deal, but if you want something that is totally sreak-free and full coverage, this might not be the shade for you. However, I kind of liked the finish of this because it's quite unique. While it's full coverage, it still had the look of being more like an opaque gloss when applied. Even with the thinner consistency, it still wore quite well, and I am guessing would probably need to be reapplied more often than the previous shade, "Notting Hill."

"Coconut Peach" is a small step downward from the intense pinkness of "Shiny Pink" yet also manages to look even brighter on my lips! Think of this as sort of a neon pink with a tinge of a coral undertone. I personally think this leans way more pink than peach. It has a similar "opaque gloss" look to it that "Shiny Pink" has, although I didn't have the same streaking issues with this shade, and it applied really smoothly. This is the only shade in the bunch that I would probably wear during the Spring and Summer months if I wanted something a bit more bold and bright. It's one of those shades that wearable while also being a bit daring for people not usually comfortable wearing bright lip colors. I really liked this one, and surprisingly, this shade seemed to last the longest before I needed to reapply- about 5 hours.
Overall Thoughts
Here's what I love about these new lipsticks:
The formulation is super comfortable and really versatile. Memebox shows an example on their website of how these can be gradated a bit and used lightly and blended out for a more natural look, or you can apply them completely full coverage. Since the formulation is so buttery and smooth, they have a bit of a slip to them that is usually reserved for lip glosses. I find that formulation makes these easy to blend and apply, as well as provides an almost fool-proof lipstick in terms of making the shade your own. You can dot these on gently and blend them with your finger, or really pack them on to get a punch of color.
I also love the chic package of these lipsticks, but not only for their appearance. They are also very high quality. I can't tell you how many lipsticks I've used where after 2-3 applications, the bullet starts to wobble a bit. These are extremely sturdy and could easily be tossed in your makeup bag without worrying about it being damaged.

Here's what I think could be better:
The price. Yea, I said it. $16 isn't ridiculously high in comparison to high end brands, however I've always praised the Memebox cosmetic line to be super affordable, and I think $16 is out of the "super affordable" range. I would have much preferred to see these priced at around $10.
I also found that these lipsticks, for their price-range, need to be re-applied more than I would like. The streakiness of the "Shiny Pink" shade was also a bit of a concern for me, as I am interested in purchasing some of the darker berry shades for Fall, and I'm worried that they might also have a streaky finish. I might just chance it though- I really love the formula of these. The moisturizing feel of them makes me think they'll be perfect for the colder months!

Overall, I'm very pleased with the packaging, shade selection, and formulation of these lipsticks. A big Thumbs Up from me!
