My First Colourpop Cosmetics Haul! (Lippies Galore!)

OK- I know I'm really late to the party when it comes to ColourPop Cosmetics. While this brand seemingly popped up out of nowhere, they were incredibly smart and hooked up with tons and tons of popular bloggers and youtubers to get their name out there. But you know, that's not always enough to make your products popular. What is the most important is price and quality. If every blogger on the planet it touting your products but they cost $50 apiece and don't work that well, you're not going to be successful. But here is where ColourPop kicks some serious ass. Their products are AMAZING. Not only that, but they're SO AFFORDABLE. I'm geeking out right now because I feel like I have no reason to buy lipstick anywhere else. That's how good these are, guys. I do want to say that I paid for these with my own money, so please don't think I'm geeking out for the wrong reasons here- they're fantastic!

About ColourPop
ColourPop was born, raised and made with love in the City of Angels (aka Los Angeles) so we can react quickly to the latest and greatest trends and get them in your fabulous hands stat.
We take the phrase “if you can dream it, you can do it” to a whole new level and specialize in making killer makeup in every shade imaginable at prices everyone can afford. We think that whole barrier between fancy and affordable is absolute nonsense. That’s why all of our products have luxury formulas at prices that won’t break the bank.

Products and Prices
Ultra Matte Lip- $6 (Over 35 Shades)
Lippie Stix- $5 (Over 50 Shades)
Lippie Pencils- $5 (Over 50 Shades)
Blush/ Highlighers/ Bronzers- $8 (Over 40 Shades)
Eyeshadows- $5 (Over 70 Shades)

ColourPop also curates really beautiful collections of lippies and eyeshadows that are available on their site for varying prices. But as you can see, not a single item costs over $8! You're going to pay more at the drugstore for a mediocre-quality product, and I can tell you from experience that ColourPop's line of products far exceeds drugstore quality into luxury brand territory, without the high-end prices.
ColourPop Website
What I love about the ColourPop website is that everything is incredibly easy to find. Every single lip product has a matching lip liner. You can break down your search by shade and finish so it's easy to find the product you're interested in. And what's even better are the multitude of swatch photos and reviews they have on products. It makes shopping so easy and fun!
I decided to not overwhelm myself right off the bat by buying tons of stuff, although it was incredibly hard to restrain myself. I decided to purchase a variety of lip products first to get an idea of their application, pigmentation and wear-time. I chose 3 lippie stix and matching lip liners, as well as one of the ultra matte lip products. Each order comes with a cute little hand-written not, which I thought was really a cute touch!
As you can see, I'm kind of into mauve/berry/neutrals. There were a lot of very deep, vampy shades that I was drooling over, but I really wanted a few wearable shades that I could wear at work and day-to-day first. I fully intend on making a larger order soon with more exciting fall shades!

I don't usually wear super matte lip products although I know they're all the rage right now. Even so, these liquid-like lipsticks were pretty appealing to me and I was curious enough to pick one up for myself in the shade, 'Clueless.'
ColourPop included a little info card about these, as there seems to be a trick to applying them.
This thin and lightweight formula glides onto the lips smoothly and leaves super intense, pigment-rich colour with a bold, ultra matte look. It's very long wearing and completely kiss proof!

To apply:
-Make sure lips are bare and dry
-Apply complimentary lip pencil for a precise and perfected applications
-Apply Ultra Matte Lip with the applicator or your favorite Lip brush
(for smoothest finish, always exfoliate your lips first!)
While the pigment of these is supposed to be as intense as a lipstick, it does come in a liquid gloss-like formula. The tube is a pretty basic lip gloss tube with a doefoot applicator.
When you first apply, it has a shiny, liquidy appearance to it. Trust me when I tell you this stuff is insanely pigmented, and you need such a small amount to really pack a color punch. Once it dries (takes 10-20 seconds or so) it has an extremely matte finish. I was very surprised at how matte it looked without appearing chalky or losing any of it's pigmentation.

I've only worn this once, and it's not because I don't like it- but because one of the other shades stole my heart to the point where I tend to reach for it every single day. More details on that below. Regardless, this is actually pretty comfortable on the lips. When applying, it sort of feels oily and thin, but doesn't drip or bleed off the lips. You can immediately feel it start to dry once you stop swiping the applicator across your lips. Once it's completely dry, it does feel a tiny bit tight, but not at all uncomfortable. Honestly once this stuff dries it barely feels like you have anything on your lips at all.
When they say this stuff is kiss-proof, they aren't joking. It's not going anywhere for awhile. This shade in particular looked a lot more pink on the website, but it dried on my lips and looked like the perfect dusty rose. I did find that my lips started to feel a little on the dry side at the end of my work day, but it's a very small price to pay for wear-proof, beautifully pigmented matte color! Definitely grabbing more of these soon!
Now onto the ever-famous Lippie Stix. I have been seeing swatches of these beauties for a long time, and I finally got my hands on some! Two of the shades I chose are matte in finish, and one is a sheer- which essentially means that it has a sheer wash of color with a shiny finish.
The packaging of these lipsticks is pretty, simple and all-around awesome. I love that the bottoms of each tube has plastic that matches the shade of the lipstick along with the name clearly labeled. This makes storing these upright in a cup or storage container incredibly easy. The caps are snap-on, and the lipsticks themselves are twist up and angled at the tops.
These are the shades I chose! LBB is a bright berry shade with a bit of a magenta tone to it (you'll see in the swatches!) whiel Lumiere is more of a dusty rose pink. Kiddo is the "sheer" shade, however there is a non-sheer version of this shade available as well.
Just for funsies, I wanted to take a look at how much product is actually in these tubes, and what do you know...almost the entire tube is taken up by product. These may only cost $5, but you're not getting a tiny amount of lipstick- there really are no joke!

Lumiere is an outstandingly beautiful dusty rose shade. It really works beautifully to get that big, pillowy lips look because it's matte, but still has a bit of sheen to it once it dries. I found this to be incredibly wearable, and lasts quite awhile on my lips. I think I have to reapply a bit after the 4 hour mark, but it's usually because I've been eating and drinking a lot of coffee.
My one gripe about this particular shade (I'm not sure if all of them are like this or maybe just this shade?) Since it's matte, it did feel a bit drying on my lips, and I noticed that it starts to build up around the inner rim of my mouth and grabs onto all the little dry bits on my lips. I do regularly exfoliate my lips, so unless I'm supposed to exfoliate every single time I use this, I found that to be a little annoying. Regardless, I like this shade so much that I am more than willing to exfoliate before I use it. It looks so nice on my lips!

Ugh, LBB is swoon-worthy, really. It's such an absolutely beautiful shade. While this is also considered matte, it does have a tiny bit of a sheen to it as well when applied to the lips. I love that it's a really deep berry red. It can be applied lightly on the lips or you can add a few layers to add depth to the shade. All of these lippies are crazy-pigmented, but this one really impressed me in particular. The swatch you see above is just one swipe. This one has been my go-to for parties, going out with friends etc. It's bright enough to avoid being obviously vampy, but dark enough to wear with all of your Fall wardrobe!

Kiddo is the only sheer lippie I got, more so because I was concerned about the quality. I have tried lots of sheer lipsticks before and I love them, but I found myself having to reapply them over and over again throughout the day. I've also had issues with the pigment not being strong enough. I did not have that issue at all with Kiddo, and it has literally become my favorite lip product. I wear this lipstick so often that I misplaced it at work because I carry it everywhere with me. It feels substantial on the lips in the sense that it's not going to wear off in an hour like most sheer lipsticks. This really does show up beautifully on my lips, and when added on top of a similar color lip liner, it really shines.
NARS Dolce Vita is an incredibly popular sheer lipstick with a hefty price tag. It was also one of my favorites for a long time, but it wore off very quickly and was way out of my price range to continue buying regularly. I find that Kiddo is dupe-worthy of Dolce Vita. It's really similar in that it gives the "my lips but better" look. However I think Kiddo lasts longer on my lips and is obviously a much better value!
Now we're onto the lip liners! I'm not going to go into much detail about each shade, but I purchased the matching lip liners for LBB and Lumiere, as well as the liner "Brink" which is the non-sheer version of Kiddo. Let's take a look at the swatches and then I'll tell you my thoughts on the liners in general!

BRINK (matches Kiddo)

I. Love. These. Liners.
Seriously, I have been paying $12 or so for my favorite liner from Starlooks, and now I don't have to do that anymore. Why? Because these liners blow every other one in my collection out of the water. For $5, there is genuinely no beating these. Not only do they perfectly match their corresponding lipstick, but they really make the lipstick last so much longer. They sharpen with ease, they glide on my lips like butter, are super-crazy pigmented and are just all-around kick ass. I have to say that if you're looking at buying some of the lippie stix you'd be missing out to not pick up the matching liner as well. It really polishes off the look so beautifully.

More Swatches OMG!

A Few Action Shots:
I actually got these lipsticks last month, and I've been using Kiddo so much that I carried it everywhere with me and somehow misplaced it somewhere at work, so I haven't been able to take a photo of it on my lips. I'm going to order at least 2-3 more though. It's quickly become one of my favorite lip products!
Lumiere Lipstick and Liner

LBB Lipstick and Liner
I really love this one for Fall in particular!

Overall Thoughts
I am so impressed with the outstanding quality of the ColourPop lip products. I think the liners are better than any other in their price range, and as good as my high end liners. As for the lipsticks, the smooth application and intense pigmentation cannot be competed with at the $5 price range. These are seriously some of the nicest lipsticks I've tried in awhile! My only minor gripe with the matte lipsticks is that they can dry up my lips a bit and start to cake-up around the inner rim of my mouth. The sheer lipsticks do not have this issue though, and I find that they feel very comfortable on the lips, have a beautiful sheer appearance that still provides color, yet somehow manages to last quite a long time on the lips.
I think my biggest surprise was the Ultra Matte Lip. I wasn't sure what to expect with this one, but I absolutely love the easy of application, the pigmentation and how long this product stays on my lips. This is the product you want for a wedding or an event that might go long enough where you won't be able to reapply your lipstick and don't want it to look faded or smudged. I absolutely love this product and I didn't expect to, so I'm already scoping out more shades to pick up in my next haul!

Now that I have a better idea of the ColourPop lipsticks, I am planning a small haul that includes some of their eye shadows as well as their cheek products. I have seen some breathtaking swatches of these products, so I really cannot wait to get my hands on some!

    1. Aww oh my goodness thank you so much! :) <3 <3 The prices really are unbeatable for the fantastic quality- I would absolutely compare these to some of my high end lipsticks- and they even outperform many of my expensive lipsticks in terms of color payoff and how long they last! I'm absolutely addicted!
