Beauteque Mask Maven December 2015 Review

Ahh Mask Maven. Before I was getting this subscription every month, I was adding at least a dozen sheet masks to every single order I made from any Korean Beauty website. Under $1? Add it to the cart. On sale? Throw a couple in, why not? I just couldn't avoid getting them since they're relatively inexpensive and fun to have a variety of on hand. However I started noticing with time that I had hundreds of sheet masks and there was just no way I would be able to use them all. I even tried using one every single day- although that just ended up causing me to break out. Since Mask Maven came into my life, I tend to only buy masks that I need to restock on because I'm a fan, or a new release that is especially unique or interesting. Other than that, my mask stash is replenished by this subscription. I think Mask Maven always has an interesting variety and they do a great job including lots of brands- even some I've never heard of!

What is Mask Maven?
Mask Maven is a monthly subscription service that sends you 9-11 masks each month. These masks range from sheet masks, hand and foot masks, hair masks, wash-off masks and more, although it seems that it's usually sheet mask-heavy. You receive a different variety of masks each month.

December's Theme: Bit of Everything
We are proud to present you with a little bit of everything this month! Face masks, a hand masks and masks for every kind of skin need are here. Soothe skin, fight blemishes and aging, brighten and energize with this assortment of beneficial beauty goodies. As always, we've got you covered!
Tonymoly: "I'm Real" Sheet Masks in "Rice" and "Lemon"
I got the lemon version of this mask in my 3B bag this month as well. I'm fine with that though because this is actually a mask I've repurchased a few times. It does a great job evening and brightening my skin tone while also balancing oil while keeping the skin moisturized. The Rice mask also brightens, but also removes dulling buildup on the skin to reveal more clear, clean skin.

Scinic: My Juicy Bottle Mask in "Aqua"
I hadn't heard about this brand before I started seeing their products on the Beauteque site. Everything looked interesting enough that I was hoping I'd start seeing them pop up in the BB Bag and Mask Maven. Scinic appeared in both for December! This mask contains bamboo and cucumber extract to quench dry skin and leave it hydrated and fresh. I'm very interested to try this and see how saturated the mask is, how it fits on my face etc.
Holika Holika: Baby Silky Hand Mask Sheet
Unfortunately, this was the only non-sheet mask in the bunch this month. I might be in the minority, but I love getting at least 3 masks that aren't facial sheet masks. Whether they be a neck mask, foot mask, hand mask, eye gels, lip mask etc etc- there are lots of options! I hope that Beauteque considering putting more non-sheet masks in future bags. Anyway this mask is applied to clean, dry hands for 20+ minutes. I try to leave these on as long as possible to get the best results. This particular mask was one of the first I used on my hands, and it is incredibly moisturizing. A great tip is to use a hand scrub prior to using this. Removing all the dry/dead skin off your hands leaves them open to absorb moisture a lot more. It's amazing how soft my hands feel once I use a scrub and a hand mask!

Mediheal: Dress Code Mask in "Violet"
These masks were being buzzed about quite a bit months ago. Memebox had them on an insane discount and people were buying them up simply because of the fun-factor. I mean...a Venetian mask ON my sheet mask? Fancy! This particular style helps revitalize and moisturize tired, stressed skin. Think- after a long day of work. The ingredients include lavender, aloe and olive extract, which makes me think this would be super relaxing in terms of scent. I hope it's lavender scented!

SNP: Animal Tiger Wrinkle Mask
I've tried this mask as well piles of other animal masks from SNP. They're one of my favorites in terms of "fun masks" due to their detailed animal prints and wide variety to choose from. This one is obviously, a tiger, and fights signs of aging and appearance of wrinkles.
Urban Dollkiss: 3-GO Hyaluronic Acid Mask Sheet
While I'm familiar with Urban Dollkiss, this particular line of masks is new to me. This one is your standard hyaluronic acid mask which plumps and moisturizes the skin. These are particularly great during the cold months as it does a great job of really loading your skin with lots of moisture without causing any oiliness.

Dr. Morita: Snail Hydrating Mask
Oooh a brand I haven't tried before! I love getting new-to-me products! Dr. Morita is a company that originated in Taiwan, and has grown in popularity due to their sheet masks. Since My Beauty Diary is also from Taiwan, I have high hopes for this one! Subscribers either received the Youth Renewal Repair Mask, or the Snail Hydrating Mask. I received the latter, which is a moisturizing mask that uses snail music to repair and slow signs of aging while also fighting acne.

My Beauty Diary: Imperial Birds Nest Mask
My Beauty Diary one of my favorite sheet mask brands due to their affordability, massive variety and overall quality. The Imperial Birds Nest Mask is probably my all-time favorite. If you need a nourishing, soothing, moisturizing mask that also fights signs of aging- this is the one for you. I've noticed a significant improvement in my skin when these are a part of my regular routine. Always love having more on hand!
Overall Thoughts
Mask Maven costs $16 per month (less if you pre-pay for a longer subscription) and the December bag contained 9 sheet masks, making each item cost under $2. Aside from my slight disappointment with the single non-sheet mask product, I think this month was a winner. There are 9 masks with 8 different brands featured this month. If you're new to sheet masks I think this is a great way to try a variety of different types as well as brands. I do wish they were a little light on the moisturizing masks and maybe switched a couple out for pore care, acne care, oil control etc. Overall, I was very pleased with the selection this month, and I'm excited to try the Scinic mask and the one from Dr. Morita!
